Silk Export Promotion Council


(ISEPC)
The Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (ISEPC) was
set up in 1983 as a company not for profit under
Companies Act duly sponsored by the Government of
India in the Ministry of Textiles
The Council as on date has a membership of 510
regular exporters of Silk goods whereas more than
1800 exporters have registered with the Council.
ISEPC works closely with the Government of India on
policy formulation concerning silk sector and
provides specialized services to the entrepreneurs
enlarging global business opportunities for the silk
industry in India.

potential by conducting market surveys.

Establish contacts with the perspective buyers to


generate their interest in Indian Silk products.
Sponsor trade delegation, study teams and sales
teams to various market abroad.

Where do we find Silk ?


Geographically, Asia is the main producer of silk in the world
and produces over 95 % of the total global output. Though
there are over 40 countries on the world map of silk, bulk of it
is produced in China and India, followed by Japan, Brazil and
Korea. China is the leading supplier of silk to the world.
India is the second largest producer of silk and also the largest
consumer of silk in the world. It has a strong tradition and
culture bound domestic market of silk. In India, mulberry silk is
produced mainly in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh,
Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir and West Bengal, while the nonmulberry silks are produced in Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Orissa
and north-eastern states.

The Central Silk Board is a Statutory Body constituted


during 1948 for the development of sericulture and silk
industry in the country. The mandated activities of CSB
are:
(i) Research & Development, and Research
Extension,
(ii) Maintenance of four tier silkworm seed
production network,
(iii)Providing leadership role in commercial
silkworm seed production,
(iv)Standardizing
and
instilling
quality
parameters in the various production processes,
(v)Promotion of Indian Silk in domestic and

Revised MDA Guidelines


w.e.f. 1/6/2013
Exporting companies with an FOB value of export up to
Rs 30 crore in the proceeding year are eligible for MDA
assistance for participation in BSMs/Fairs/Exhibitions
abroad. This is subject to the condition that the exporter
has completed 12 months membership with the
concerned EPCs and filing of returns with the concerned
EPCs.
No such ceiling is applicable for participation in Focus
LAC region.
Assistance would be permissible on travel expenses by
air, in economy excursion class fair and/or charges of the
built up furnished stall. This is subject to the upper ceiling
mentioned above.

For EPC etc led BSMs only air fare by Economy


Excursion class up to a maximum of Rs 70,000 (Rs
1,00,000 in case of Focus LAC) shall be permissible.
Maximum number of permissible participation shall be
5 in a financial year

How to be an exporter member of


ISEPC ??
Eligibility Criteria:
Any exporter of natural Silk Goods can become an exporter member of the Council. As
a member, you will be entitled to receive all benefits from the Council as announced by the
Government of India from time to time.

How to Apply:
Enclose a Demand Draft or at par cheque in favour of the Indian Silk Export
Promotion Council, for Rs. 6,742/- (Service Tax included) payable @ New Delhi.
Fill up the form (Appendix 4).
Enclose Bankers Certificate.
Fill up the authorization form to act as representative in the Council.
Enclose a photocopy of importer and exporter Code number issued by the
Licensing Authority.
Enclose a Photocopy of evidence as a manufacturer exporter, if required.
A certified copy of the Partnership Deed (in case of partnership firm) or the
Memorandum and Articles of Association ( In case of a limited company) to be
attached.
