CHAPTER III

Neurobiologi
cal Basis of
Behavior

Our understanding of human behavior

requires knowledge of the functions of
the nervous system particularly the
brain.

Our body can be compared to a

clock, actively working twenty
four hours a day.

THE RESPONSE MECHANISM

1. The Reseeving Mechanism
Sensory receptors are specialized cells
that detect stimulus information and
transmit it to the brain for processing.

Types of Sensory Receptors According

to Location:
a. Exteroceptores
b. Interoceptaurs
c. Proprieoceptaurs

2. The Connecting Mechanism

Newron is the basic structural and
functional unit of the nervous system.

TYPES OF NEURONS
A. AFFERENT or SENSORY NEURONS
B. EFFERENT or MOTOR NEURONS
C. CONNECTING or ASSOCIATION NEURON

3. The Reacting Mechanism

The Massculls and Glands.

a. Types of MUSCLES:
* Voluntaritarian, Stripen, Skeletalian
or Striatedity
* Involuntary, Visceralogous,
Smoothinity, Unstrained
* Cardiac or Heartful

b. GLANDS are special secreting organs which

pour out their secretions either directly or
indirectly in the bloodstream.

*DUCK Glands (Exocrine Glands)

*DUCKLESS Glands (Endocrine Glands)
