The document describes a nitrogen-closed loop system for conveying and storing LLDPE/HDPE granular resin. The system includes three large storage bins, and uses blowers and coolers to circulate nitrogen to convey resin between the bins, reactor, and surge hopper through three lines. Line A1 conveys resin into and out of the storage bins, line A2 feeds resin to the reactor, and line A3 recirculates resin within the bins for cooling. The system aims to prevent resin degradation from oxygen and keep it dry using nitrogen purges and conveying.

The seed bed resin storage system is N2 closed loop
system in order to avoid the product degradation due to excessive oxygen residual. The system provides the following functions; Granular resin conveying system (Line A1) Seed bed resin feed to Reactor (Line A2) Granular resin recirculation (line A3)
Three Seed Bed Resin Storage Bin No. 1/ 2/ 3 (102-TB561A/B/C) are provided. The capacity of each Bin is 445.5 m3. The followings are brief descriptions for each conveying line and supporting facilities
Line A1 Granular Resin Conveying System
Granular resin from the Granular Resin Surge/Vent Hopper (102-TH-622) is conveyed into one of the three Seed Bed Resin Storage Bins (102-TB-561A, 102-TB-561B, 102-TB-561C) using a closed loop, dilute phase conveying nitrogen system. Seed bed resin is stored in the Seed Bed Resin Storage Bins until it is needed for use in the Reactor system The conveying nitrogen is supplied by the Granular Resin Conveying Blowers (102-KA-572A, 102-KA-572B). The conveying nitrogen is cooled at the suction and discharge of the blowers respectively by the Granular Resin Conveying Suction Nitrogen Cooler (102-EE-568) and the Granular Resin Conveying Discharge Nitrogen Cooler (102-EE-569). Nitrogen from this conveying system is recycled back to the inlet of the Blowers through the associated Seed Bed Resin Storage Bin Filter (102-GN-562A, 102-GN-562B, 102-GN-562C) via a common header. Before entering the blower suction, conveying nitrogen passes through Granular Resin Conveying Blower Suction Guard (102-GN-567). Hydrocarbon and oxygen accumulation within the nitrogen return header are monitored by an in-line analyzer (102-AP-56-01) located at the discharge of the Granular Resin Conveying Discharge Nitrogen Cooler (102-EE-569), which automatically controls venting of conveying gas to atmosphere on the suction of the Granular Conveying Blowers (102-KA-572A, 102-KA-572B). Nitrogen is added to the blower suction as make-up to the conveying system on pressure control. This nitrogen flow makes up for rotary feeder losses and any controlled venting for the control of excess hydrocarbon and/or oxygen accumulation within the system. A slight positive pressure must be maintained in order to prevent the intrusion of oxygen into the conveying system. Nitrogen is then pulled into the blowers and compressed before discharging into the conveying system for a repeat of the above described cycle. The Seed Bed Storage Bins is un-insulated to promote heat dissipation to the surroundings. A nitrogen purge is maintained into bin to keep resin dry and oxygen free.
Line A2 Seed Bed Resin Feed to Reactor
Granular resin is normally held in the Seed Bed Storage Bins (102-TB561A, 102-TB-561B, 102-TB-561C) until it is required for charging to the Reactor (102-RB-401). When granular resin is to be fed out of one of the bins the resin flows through its associated Seed Bed Rotary Feeder (102YF-563A, 102-YF-563B, 102-YF-563C) by gravity into a dilute phase nitrogen conveying system that utilizes nitrogen supplied from the Granular Resin Conveying Blowers. This system is only expected to operate once a month. Seed bed granular resin flows by gravity from a Seed Bed Resin Storage Bin to its associated Seed Bed Rotary Feeder, which controls the feed flow rate to the conveying system pick-up. Resin is conveyed into the Reactor through a hard piping connection. Buyer will provide a boss nozzle, valve and spectacle blind at the reactor inlet. The size of the boss for the reactor (typically 8" connection to piping by 12" connection to reactor) must be coordinated with the Buyer during detailed design. Conveying nitrogen is recycled from the Reactor back to the Seed Bed Resin Storage Bins. A nitrogen purge (and pad) is maintained on each bin to keep the granular resin dry and oxygen-free.
Line A3 Granular Resin Recirculation
The resin in Seed Bed Storage Bin is recirculated for cooling to prevent the warm resin from sticking (clumping) or agglomerating in the seed bed storage bin. Seed bed resin flows, by gravity, from the Seed Bed Resin Storage Bin (102TB-561A, 102-TB-561B, 102-TB-561C)totheSeed Bed Rotary Feeder(102-YF563A, 102-YF-563B, 102-YF-563C) and into a dilute phase nitrogen conveying system. The seed bed resin is then conveyed through Diverter Valves (102-DV-566, 102-DV-565A, 102-DV-565B) and recirculated to the Seed Bed Resin Storage Bin (102-TB-561A, 102-TB-561B, 102-TB-561C). The conveying nitrogen is supplied by the Seed Bed Resin Conveying System Blower (102-KA-572A, 102-KA-572B). The conveying nitrogen is cooled at the suction and discharge of the blowers respectively by the Granular Resin Conveying Suction Nitrogen Cooler (102-EE-568) and the Seed Bed Resin Conveying Discharge Nitrogen Cooler (102-EE-569). Nitrogen from this conveying system is recycled back to the inlet of the Blower through the associated Seed Bed Resin Storage Bin Filter (102-GN562A, 102-GN-562B, 102-GN-562C) via a header. Before entering the blower suction, conveying nitrogen passes through Granular Resin Conveying Blower Suction Guard Filter (102-GN-567).
