Essay test
It presents a problem and the
student is to compose a
response in paragraph form
using his or her own words or
ideas.
It has 2 types:
a) Restricted Response
Type
b) Extended Response
Type

Restricted Response Type


The examinee is required to
provide
limited
response
based on specified criterion
for answering the question.
Extended Response
Type
This essay type is allowing
the test taker to write an indepth sampling of his/her
knowledge, thinking process
and
problem
solving
behavior
relative
to
a
specific topic.

Extended Response Type


It requires the test taker to
present his/ her answer in
several paragraphs or pages of
writing.
It gives also more freedom to
express ideas, opinions and use
synthesizing skills to change
knowledge into creative idea.

- In this type of scoring, a total
score is assigned to each essay
question based on the teacher

b. Analytic Scoring
- In this type of scoring, the
essay is scored in terms of its
components.

Guidelines in Scoring Essay


Tests
1. Use scoring scheme consistently.
2. Remove or cover the names on the
papers before beginning the scoring.
3. Score each students answer to the
same question before going on to the
next question.
4. Try to keep scores from previous
items
hidden
when
scoring
subsequent items.
5. Try to re-evaluate your papers
before returning them.
