The Mesh Concept

Bug I Lt 704 Mesh

• The mesh concept is a great man, red zone, or quarters
coverage pattern
• Mesh allows for a check down or blitz read
• It gives us a backside Read Rail or Choice
• We can run Mesh from motion no motion or from
multiple sets
• Because of its innate design it is a great goal line play

The Backside SE has a Read Rail. 1 Key the flat defender. He gets rubbed; HIT the
flat route.
Bug I Lt 704 Mesh: Patterns
• M runs a rub route into a whip off the flat defender. If
the defender sprints to the flat you will get the ball.
You are a Blitz read.
• The HB motions to halfway between the M and the TB
then runs a Smash route from 12 to 19 when he hits the
sideline
• The TB runs a flat or a shoot route quickly
Bug I Lt 709 Mesh: Patterns
• SE will run a Read Rail
• If the Defender has a 5 yard cushion or more, the S will
run a speed out at seven steps
• If the defender gets outside leverage, S will fake a
smash for two steps and then Break into a Skinny Post
• If when S releases, he gets on the defenders shoulder, S
will take him deep
• If upon release from the LOS the defender has given
him too much respect, Hook up at half the distance and
show you QB your numbers.

D Rt. 704 Mesh: Whip Read
• QB does his PSL & PSR for coverage and matchups,
then, begins his drop
• As the QB drops and begins to execute his read he
will first peek at the flat defender for his initial read.
• If the flat defender blitzes, QB will immediately
check down to the whip route
• If he does not blitz, he will continue with his
progression.
