1- Initial Access

Connect using normal LAN cable between LAN port


on your PC & LCT port on iPASO IDU.
Let your PC IP setting use Automatic IP assignation.
Open a web browser (Internet Explorer or FireFox,
but not Google Chrome) & write in the URL field the
following IP address {172.17.254.253}, then press
[Enter].
Write Admin in the (User Name) field &
12345678 in the (Password) field. Then click [OK].
Another window will pop up on which you can set
the required parameters for iPASO.

2- Current status page (1/2)

On this page you will see a diagram for


the installed IDU showing the defined
cards with related ODUs.
Downwards, you will see the active
alarms.
On the left, you will find the navigation
pane which will be used to navigate to
required parameters to be set.

3- Time & Date setting

This step is very important for future


troubleshooting.
Navigate to Program Utility.
Choose Date/Time Setting.
Click [Modify].
Set the right Date, Time & Time
Zone, then press [OK].
Hint : Egypt time zone is (+2).

4- Equipment Configuration
(1/5)

Navigate to Equipment Setup.


Choose Equipment Configuration.
Click [Setup].
You have to setup on three steps as
follows.

First step : Write NE name (normally the


site name), then click [Next].

Second step : Define the cards that will


be used or simply click [Auto Detect],
then click [Next].

Third step : If the required configuration
is 1+1 or XPIC, use the checkboxes to
define the
groups,
then
click
[Next].

A confirmation screen comes with the


changes colored. Check that you did the
right config., then
click
[OK].

5- Radio Configuration (1/4)

Navigate to Equipment Setup.


Choose Radio Configuration.
Click [Setup].

Set the parameters given to you in the


link design sheet.
Click
[Next].

Note : In case you have more than one


direction in the IDU, you will set them one
by one, click [Next] each time to shift to
the next one.

A confirmation screen comes with the


changes colored. Check that you did the
right config., then
click
[OK].

6- Network Management
Configuration (1/2)

Navigate to Equipment Setup.


Navigate to Network Management
Configuration.
Choose General Setting.
Click [Setup].

Configuration (2/2)

Set the IP address given to you in IP plan.


Choose [Yes] for (NMS Port Setting) if the
IDU will be connected directly to NMS
system. Otherwise, choose [No].
Click [OK].
Note : If the IP is not as per the
plan, you will not be able to
remote access other IDUs.

7- MODEM Port Setting (1/2)

Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to MODEM Function
Setting.
Choose MODEM Port Setting.
Click on the MODEM that you want to
rename.

7- MODEM Port Setting (2/2)

Set the name of the MODEM port


(normally direction name).
This step will not actually affect the
transmission process, but just used to
differentiate among direction.
Click [OK].

8- Tx Power Setting (1/2)

Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to MODEM Function
Setting.
Choose Tx Power Setting.
Click on the MODEM that you want to
set its Tx power value.

Set the Tx power value given in the link


design.
Click [OK].

9- Ethernet Function Setting


(1/5)

This part will be done only when


Ethernet traffic will be loaded.
Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to ETH Function Setting.
Choose ETH Port Setting.
Click on the port that you want to
enable.

Choose [Enable].
Set the port name if required.
Let other settings be as per the default.
Click [OK].

Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to ETH Function Setting.
Choose VLAN Setting.
Open [VLAN List] tab.
Click [Add VLAN ID].
Add VLANs as per
requested by the
customer.

Open [VLAN Setting] tab.


Click on the required port to be set &
assign the required VLAN to this port.
Click
[OK].

(5/5)

Access port type is used to assign only


one VLAN to the port plus any untagged
frames.
Trunk port type is used to assign multiple
VLANs to the same port & the port will
discard untagged frames.
If the customer doesnt request special
setting, set all ports as Trunk ports.
MODEMs are Trunk ports by default &
cant be changed.
Tunnel port type has some special

10- E1 Port Setting (1/2)

Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to E1/STM-1 Cross
Connect Setting.
Choose E1 Port Setting.
Click [Modify].

10- E1 Port Setting (2/2)

If you have more than 1 E1 card, you


have to set each one by clicking its tab.
Click
[Used]
for the
required
E1s.
Click
[OK].

11- Cross Connect Setting (1/2)

Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to E1/STM-1 Cross
Connect Setting.
Choose Cross Connect Setting.
Click [Add].

11- Cross Connect Setting (2/2)

Under (Edge-A), choose the required E1


card.
Under (Edge-B), choose the MODEM of
the required
direction.
Choose the
number of
required E1s
in both sides.
Click [OK].

11- Notes about Cross Connect

Note 1 : In case of working with SDH


traffic, use STM-1 level instead of E1
level.
Note 2 : If the number of E1s on both
edges are not equal, LCT will indicate a
mistake from the user.

12- Synchronization (1/3)

Navigate to Provisioning.
Navigate to Equipment Clock/
Synchronization.
Choose Equipment Clock Setting.
The default setting is (Master). If you
need to change, click [Modify].

12- Synchronization (2/3)

If the link is separated from a synchronized


network, set one terminal as Master & the other
terminal as Slave which will extract the clock
signal from MODEM side.
If one terminal is located in MSC or BSC (has a
good synch. source), this terminal will be set as
Slave which will extract the clock signal from
traffic line side & the other terminal will be set
as Slave which will extract the clock signal from
MODEM side.
For other links, set both terminals as Slave which
will extract the clock signal from MODEM side.

12- Synchronization (3/3-1)

To change the CLK mode to Slave type,


choose the Combo Box labeled (Slave).
For (Clock Source Selective Mode),
choose PL mode.
In the (Timing Source) field, choose to
extract the clock signal from MODEM side
or traffic line side as
required.

12- Synchronization (3/3-2)

Continuing

Set the right slot in which the source is


located & for E1 extracted clock, set the
required channel number as well (normally
decided by the customer).
Set priority, then click [OK].
Hint : Remove
External Clock
if not required
to cancel its
alarm.

13- Firmware upgrade (1/5)

Some features will not work until the


F/W is upgraded.
Activate Maintenance mode by
clicking Maintenance button.
Navigate to Equipment Utility.
Choose Update (Storage->NE) Utility.
Click [Execute].

13- Firmware upgrade (2/5)

From the drop list, choose (Main Card1).


Click [Next].

13- Firmware upgrade (3/5)

In (Local PC) field, click on (Browse


Folder) sign.
Browse to the F/W file on your PC.
Click [OK].
At the end of downloading, a message
will pop up to confirm resetting with ROM
switching,
click
[Cancel].

13- Firmware upgrade (4/5)

After downloading, navigate to


Inventory.
Choose Equipment Inventory
Information.
Check the
Firmware
Information
to ensure that
its upgraded.

13- Firmware upgrade (5/5)

The new F/W version will be


downloaded to Uncurrent Version.
Navigate to Equipment Utility.
Choose Program ROM Switching.
Click Main Card1, then switch between
ROMs. Return to Inventory to check.

14- License Key Setup (1/2)

Some features require license to be used.


Navigate to S/W License Setup.
Choose Import
License Key.
Click [Setup].

Click on (Browse Folder) sign.


Browse to the license key file on your PC.
Click [OK].
Hint : This step is optional depending on
customer requirements.

15- Current Metering (1/2)

To view the current Tx level, Rx level &


modulation schemes, navigate to Metering.
Choose Current Metering.
The shown figures will remain unchanged. If
you need to see
updated values,
click the
MODEM of
the required
direction.

15- Current Metering (2/2)

For Alignment & Troubleshooting, you


need to view the updated values of
Metering items.
The values will be updated periodically.
The changing period can be chosen to be
either 10 seconds or 3 seconds.
After finishing alignment,
click [Cancel].

16- Remote Access

To access another IDU remotely, click the


drop list located beside MAINT button.
A list of far end IDUs will be dropped,
choose the one you need & click on it.
Use the same User Name & Password to
access remotely to the far end.
