ASSIGNMENT

SEMINAR ON
TEACHING ITS
NATURE

INTRODUCTION
Teaching is both an art & a science.
Able teachers always find ways & means to improve their teaching
techniques.
The improvement of the teacher by employing newer methods of
teaching & the latest technique of teaching is a need of the hour.
The education system of any nation is a mirror through which can be
seen the image or the nation being shaped & likely to be shaped.
Education develops manpower for different levels of the economy. It
is also the substrata on which research & development flourish,
being the ultimate guarantee of national self-reliance..

EDUCATING THE TEACHERS

Any educational effort loses its vitality, if it does not give adequate attention & importance to the teacher, one of the most important pillars of education.
The role of the teacher has been held sacred from time immemorial.
The National Policy of Education (1986) while defining the role of teacher says that their principal role is & will always be teaching and guidance to their pupils, not only through
classroom instruction & tutorials, & numerous other ways, but also by personal contact.

THE CURRICULAM AND

METHOD
It should be clear that pupil growth is determined both in nature & amount
by the method bringing learners into contact with subject matter or other
learning materials.
A teacher must be aware of how pupils learn & how the particular method
he uses effect pupils learning.
Current researches conclusively support the principles that the best way to
assist individuals to acquire the appreciations, knowledge, understandings,
attitudes, and the appreciation to live in a democratic society is through
school practices, which epitomize democratic procedures. Democratic
method constitutes an all-pervasive force, which must permeate the entire
social climate of the school.

TOWARDS A DEFINITION OF
TEACHING STRATEGY
An instructional strategy is defined as something a teacher arranges that is
designed to establish interaction between the teacher, the students, & the
subject matter, or any combination of these three dimensions.
The effective teacher will
i. Plan to influence directly or indirectly, the learning process by varying his behavior.
ii. Tailor the subject matter to meet the needs & interests of each individual
iii. Arrange a variety of media, including, books, lecture notes, homework, visual aids,
programmes, discussions & laboratory experience.
This model of effective teaching places the student in the center completely surrounded by
multisensory media arranged by the teacher who functions as a prescriber-organizer. The
teacher, acting as a prescriber organizer, studies each students physical & mental
characteristics as well as his previous achievement record.

NEW SRATEGIES FOR

PARTICIPATORY LEARNING
The salient aspects of participatory learning is working in
groups.
Working in small groups can be a very good way of
encouraging students to work cooperatively & support
each other.
The teacher needs to make certain that no one is left out
when groups are formed.
