Paint:
A mixture of pigment suspended in a liquid.
It is used as a coating to protect or decorate a
surface.
COMPOSITION OF
PAINTS:
Paints essentially contains a base which provides body, there is also a carrier ,
also known as vehicle in which base is dissolved which helps base to spread
when all over applied.
Pigment added to give desired colours.
Fillers added to paint to give bulk nature.

Water paints
Plastic paints
Cement paints
Distemper paints
Bituminous paints
Oil paints:
Mainly used for wooden and metallic
surfaces.
Linseed oil, poppy oil and castor oil used
as carrier.
It is proper to give two or three coatings
to obtain good results.
Plastic paints:
In addition to other ingredients it contains requisite
amount of plastic.
It is used where high-class work is required like
show-rooms, theaters and auditoriums.
They can be easily applied on plastic walls.
Water paints:
It is the mixture of pigment, binder,
drier and water(the carrier).
Casein is the most common binder
used in these paints.
These are cheap, easily workable
and washable when properly set.
They give good finish and suitable for
inside walls.
Cement paints:
It essentially contains white
cement(about 70%), hydrated
lime (about15%), pigments(about
5%) and other ingredients.
These are available in powder
form.
Water is added to paint just
before to use.
Cement paints mainly used over
plastered surfaces.
Distemper paints:
Distemper consists of chalk, pigment
and glue.
These are mixed with water at the time
of use on the plastered walls .
These are used for high-class interior
walls and ceilings of all kinds of
buildings.
Bituminous paints:
These are prepared by dissolved
bitumen in petroleum or other solvent.
These black coloured paints leave
hard and tough.
These are high resistant to water and
used for submerged iron and steel
structures.
Emulsions:
This type of paint is also water based and provides a rich and Matt finish
to interior walls.
The differentiating factor of emulsion paints is its acrylic quality. Its
composition imparts excellent durability to the painted surface and gives
the walls a just painted look.
It washable and most stains can be removed easily by wiping with a cloth
dipped in a mild soap solution.
The paint film is also fungus and mildew resistant
