Q. DRAW A GANTT CHART FOR THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THE PROJECT. WHAT IS
THE COMPLETION DATE IF CONSTRUCTION STARTS IN MARCH? WHAT IS THE
COMPLETION DATE OF THE PROJECT IF CONSTRUCTION IS STARTED IN NOVEMBER

The following Gantt chart is prepared for St. Dismas project using MS project. The project
starts on March 1/2000 and ends on July 31/2001. We have considered the working
hours to be from Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. We have assumed one hour of
lunch break

THE FOLLOWING GANTT CHART IS PREPARED FOR ST. DISMASS PROJECT USING
MSP. THE PROJECT STARTS ON NOV 9/2001 AND ENDS ON MAY 18/2001. WE
HAVE CONSIDERED BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS AND ELECTION SEASON TO
CALCULATE THE GANTT CHART

Q. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP THE TEAM MEMBERS MUST TAKE

IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THEIR PROJECT PLANS?

A. They must coordinate and collaborate so that they can

complete the project on time
B. Tasks under COOs plan cannot be started early owing to
legal hurdles
C. Final scope , cost and duration must be done only after
reaching a consensus

Q2. WHY IS IT NOT POSSIBLE TO MEET THE SCHEDULING CONSTRAINTS SET

BY THE BOARD? WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDATION TO HANDLE THE
SCHEDULING PROBLEM?

The Board was faced with the following two constraints:

Constraint 1:
A. The assisted living facility is to be open by July as targeted timeline is
for summer months.
B. It is difficult to meet this constraint as large scale projects take a year
or more to complete

Constraint 2

The project should start after the elections in November

Complete occupancy by July can be achieved only if project is started in
winter months as there will be elections in November too
This would increase the cost and time of the project
With this schedule the units will available for occupancy by April (prior to
the goal of summer)
Recommendation: Start the project on 1st March 2000 in order to make
initial units available for occupancy by 25th June 2001.

Q. WHEN WILL BE THE PROJECT COMPLETED BASED

ON YOUR RECOMMENDATION
If project starts on March 1, 2000 then project will be completed by July
31, 2001
Project can be finished by June 29, 2001 if it is start on February 1,
2000 and there are no delays due to weather conditions

PHASE OF THE PROJECT. DETERMINE THE START DATE OF THE MARKETING
PLAN PHASE OF THE PROJECT IN ORDER TO MEET YOUR RECOMMENDED
FACILITY READY FOR OCCUPANCY DATE?

The start date assumed is March 1, 2000

Q. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP THE TEAM MEMBERS MUST

TAKE IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THEIR PROJECT PLANS?
The work should be collated by members and final plan should be
made such that each mandatory step is finished before the next one
starts
E.g. COOs might be awaiting certain legal requirements or corporal
approvals to initiate his tasks
Prepare detail project plan individually
All the members should ensure that their project plans are integrated
into one final project plan to derive final scope, time and budget for
the project
