 Major Oil equity & globalize marketing operations abroad: Vietnam, Egypt,
Turkmenistan, Russia, Sudan, Myanmar, Iraq, Iran, Cuba, Brazil, Libya,
Syria, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Mauritius,Sudan, Romania, Venezuela, Russia,
Kazakhstan, UK, etc.

 Currently around 32,482 retail outlets operational in the country (IOC-


17,600; HPCL-8329; BPCL-6553). Reliance, has over 1,400 pumps across
the country, will reopen in phases, starting with Maharashtra & Gujarat.

 RIL, has started pumping oil & gas from its KG Basin. RIL will start selling
natural gas from the field in Jan 2010. Output from the field would rise to
550,000 barrels a day in 18-24 months. This is about 40% of the current
indigenous production in India.

 Cairn has begin crude production, 4000-5000 barrels of oil per day.
Transported in trucks to Gujarat coast and shipped to MRPL’s refinery.

 There is a high potential for discoveries offshore, particularly in deep


waters. Exploration has so far taken place in only about one-quarter of
India’s 26 sedimentary basins.

Energy Industry…
 India is the 6th largest Power consumer in the world

 The energy sector is one of the fastest growing fields in the country.

 India has large reserves of coal and is the third largest coal producing
country of the world.

 By 2030 India require one million megawatt installed capacity in power,


currently it is 160,000 MW.

 By 2050 India uranium nuclear power generation reserves would touch


200,000 MW. India’s current estimated uranium reserves are sufficient to
generate only 10,000 mw.

 Potential in India for generation of power from renewable energy sources,


such as, Wind, Small Hydro, Biomass and Solar Energy

 Renewable energy may meet 35% India’s electricity demands by 2050

The Industry…

 India ranked 2nd in bio-gas with installation of over 40 lakh Biogas plants and
4th in Wind Energy development globally by achieving 7,300 MW power
connecting to grids.

 Renewable energy sources has enormous number of jobs and helping lift the
whole world out of recession.

 It is expected to get investments to the tune of $50 billion (Rs 2,00,000 crs)
in the near future and would help in further development of the country.

 According to industry experts, the sector is growing at around 100% a


year and is set to grow even faster.

 French energy firm Areva, the world’s largest nuclear power company has
signed agreement with NPCIL (Nuclear Power Corporation of India) to
supply about 300 tonnes of uranium annually. The fuel from Areva can
generate 35% of India’s nuclear capacity.

Eligibility Criteria
• The eligibility criteria for students seeking non-examination route to
the UPES MBA programs are as follows:
• The student should have secured minimum 50% marks at Higher &
Secondary Level (10th & 12th ), and minimum 50% marks in his/her
graduation degree
• Students who have secured a minimum CAT ’09 score of 75
Percentile, or students who have secured a minimum MAT (Sept.
’09, Dec. ’09, Feb. ’10 or May ’10) score of 80 Percentile
