1. INTRODUCTION

The birth of Indian agriculture is taken to be form the Indian

valley i.e. 6th millennium BC as there was evidence of the
presence of wheat and some legumes, which was really a great
talk for the beginning.
Through the overall growth of the Indian economy has
depended much upon the performance of agriculture, over the
years, not much public investment has been made on its
development. Of many cash crops produced in India, areca nut is
the most important one.

Areca nut is also called as beetle nut is an important palm

species in India. The main pockets of main production of areca
nut in India are distributed in the state of Karnataka(40% area
and 44% of production), Kerala(26% of area and 21% of
production),and Assam(22% of area and 17% of production).
Other states of producing significant amount of areca nut are
Meghalaya, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar islands, Andhra
Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Tamilnadu, Tripura, and
Pondicherry.
The reasons for the decrease in the output is due to following
factors:
i. Lack of irrigation facilities
ii. Lack of protection of the crops
iii. In adequate use of technology and use of modern agricultural
practices
iv. Size of the land holdings are small
v. Inefficient finance and marketing services.

PROTECTION TO THE CROPS

The crops has been attacked by many type of diseases such as
fruit, root, bud root etc. especially in the season, the areca nut
attacked by the fungus at the tree top.
Chemicals are widely used for controlling disease, insects and
weed in crops, plants and trees. They need to be applied on the
plants and the soil in the form of spray, dust or mist. Therefore
equipment for uniform and effective applications is essential. Dusters
and sprayers are generally used for applying chemicals different type
of spraying technique have been evolved and employed. Spraying is
employed for a variety of purposes such as application of,

Herbicides in order to reduce competition from weeds,

Protective fungicides to minimize the effects of fungal disease,
Insecticide to control various kinds of insects, pests,
Micro-nutrients such as manganese or boron.

LITERATURE SURVEY
The green revolution brought a change in the country and farmers
started using atomised equipment and chemical fertilizers for
improved production of various agricultural products. This was even
applied in case of areca nut, formers started using pump and various
pesticides to protect the areca nut from fruit rot disease.
The use of spraying technique for areca nut has developed with
and can be recognised as,
1. Conventional method
2. Bamboo pole method

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The objective of this project is to provide assistance to the

formers by creating virtual machine which can spray fungicide and
cut the requirement of the costly workers and to increase the
production of quality areca nut to meet the demands and bring
stability in the market.

DESCRIPTION
1. Climber unit:
The driving system is of just four roller wheels
which is driven by the motor. The whole system is
fitted into a square shaped frame. The frame is so
shaped because it is easy to mount the motor on it.
2. Spraying unit:
The robotic arm is used to spray the pesticides on
to the bunch of areca nuts. Using this arm, nearby
trees are also being sprayed.
The robotic arm is controlled by remote controller.
3. Pump:
The pump is used to pump the pesticide from
ground level to nozzle.

CONCLUSION
It was intended to create a system that would climb any
areca nut tree in any conditions. An attempt was made to
create a unit that would run on electricity. The use of motor and
robotic arm reduces the man power and it is also a safe
method. Any person can operate this equipment without any
difficulty and it can be used at any time and in any season.
So, it can be concluded that the motorized areca nut tree
climber and sprayer is safe, reliable, efficient and reduces the
problem of labour scarcity.
