Cement Mixer
O The concrete mixer was invented by

Columbus industrialist Gebhardt Jaeger.

O A concrete mixer is a device that
homogeneously combines cement,
aggregate such as sand or gravel, and
water to form concrete.
O This concrete mixer is mainly used in the
field of small-scale architecture and
decoration for mixing mortar, mixing
chemical and feed etc.

Components
O The most visible part of a cement mixer is a

rotating drum, which allows all of the parts

of the cement to be mixed simultaneously
and keeps the mixture even.
O Inside this drum there are blades, which turn
and mix all of the parts of the cement
together, and these are usually propelled by
a motor that is attached to the drum.
O Once the concrete is ready to pour, there is
a hole in the drum from which the wet
concrete easily comes out.

Working
O The direction that the blades turn can be

reversed when pouring the wet cement, and

they act to scoop it out rather than mixing it.
O Mixing cement is a process that can require a
certain degree of precision, and the cement
mixer is a crucial component of the process.
O The main thing required is the cement itself,
which is a mixture of sand, water, and
aggregate (crushed stone) and a place to mix it
all together. The precision comes into the
process in mixing the exact quantities of these
items.

Working
O The most common mixture of cement that

is used in a cement mixer is known as

Portland cement, a mixture that has
specific properties that are easy to control,
such as the time it takes to dry.
O The size of cement mixer that is necessary
to complete a job is mainly dependent on
the size of the job itself. Work that requires
seven or eight cubic feet of cement or less
can usually be completed with a portable
cement mixer.

Advantages
O It is easy to move and have a small

volume.
O It has such merits as rapid mixing
rate and ensured high quality of
mixed concrete.
O This has resulted in refinement of
mixing technologies for concrete
production

Types
O Twin-shaft mixers: known for their high intensity mixing, and short

mixing times. These mixers are typically used for high strength
concrete, RCC and SCC, typically in batches of 26m 3 (2.6
7.8cuyd).
O Vertical axis mixers: most commonly used for precast and
prestressed concrete. This style of mixer cleans well between
batches, and is favoured for colored concrete, smaller batches
(typically 0.753m3or 0.983.9cuyd), and multiple discharge
points. Within this category, the Pan mixers are losing popularity to
the more efficient Planetary (or counter-current) mixers as the
additional mixing action helps in production of more critical concrete
mixes.
O Reversible Drum mixers: used where large volumes (batch sizes
of 39m3or 3.912cuyd) are being produced. This type of mixer
dominates the ready-mixed market as it is capable of high
production speeds, ideal for slump concrete, and where overall cost
of production is important

Further Types
O Hand rotating.
O Motor Working.(Demands electricity)
O Generator Depending.(Demands

Diesel)
