CARGO INSPECTIONS

Traditionally have been conducted in importers port to prevent

fraud but now they are much more focused on terrorism
prevention.
The inspections have also been carried in the port of exportation
(pre shipment inspection)
Inspection Procedures
Radiation detection: to measure the presence of radioactive
materials including primary and secondary screening steps
Scanning: to build up an image of the contents of the container

Advance Shipping Notification
U.S. Costum Border Protection-24 Hours
rule
Requires that all importers and carriers provide
a copy of the manifest of an ocean shipment
bound for the United states including shipment
that were just transiting trough U.S. port, 24
hours before that shipment was loaded.
Importer Security Filling (10+2 Rule)
Importer is responsible for the timely, accurate,
and complete submission of the 10 data
elements in the ISF. The steamship line is
responsible for the +2 container tracking
reports.
Customs will be comparing the ISF to the entry
data to analyze and assess risk and to validate
the ISF data.
