PROPELLER SHAFT
This is the shaft which
transmits the drive
from the transmission
to the worm of final
drive in front engine in
case of rear drive
vehicles.
It is made up of steel,
aluminum or
composite materials
UNIVERSAL JOINTS
A universal joint is a
particular type of
connection between
two shafts, whose
axes are inclined to
each other
What is a Differential?
Its an arrangement to
ensure equal speeds of
inner and the outer
wheels of an axle while
taking turns.
This is used because
when taking a turn the
outer wheels have to
travel greater distance as
compared to inner wheels
in the same time.
Functions of a Differential
To aim the engine power at
the wheels
To act as the final gear
reduction in the vehicle,
slowing the rotational speed
of the transmission one final
time before it hits the
wheels.
To transmit the power to the
wheels while allowing them
to rotate at different speeds
(This is the one that earned
the differential its name.)
