Lecture 15: Pathogenicity

Dr. Dimos

Pathogenicity Vs. Virulence

Pathogenicity: is a broad concept
that describes an organisms potential
to cause infection or disease.
Virulence: is the accurate term for
describing the degree of pathogenicity.
The virulence of a microbe is
determined by its ability to (1)
establish itself in the host and (2)
cause damage.
