PREFACE:
Till now we have seen that the Dabbawalas organisation are very
professional and the way of their seriousness towards their work is
really praiseworthy.

The way of their distribution of their work is gives rise to the term
called ‘Decentralization’. Every company wants to be decentralise.
The main advantage of decentralization is that management body have the
power of control, profit and authority.

PREREQUISITES OF DABBAWALAS
ORGANISATION:
(A )Creativity:
They believe that creative people make the world work. The
world had progressed due to advancement of science and technology.
This advancement is due to creative thinking of people.
(B) Money :
Dabbawalas are aware of the mind set of middle class
people. Hence they can not afford to charge more , unless the customer
themselves not feel any increase.

(C) Persuasive Power:


Ours is a sentimental society. Hence if anyone can access
the sentimental part skillfully then the person can easily be
convinced. Hence the persausive power quality is must in every
dabbawalas.

(D)Different qualities and Tradition:


The presence of certain qualities like honesty, integrity
and belief in God does not change. Though people have moved to cities
from villages , they had not left their tradition.

(E) Habits:
Habits are stabalizers of life. They require maintenance ,
which means regular service. Dabawalas have cultivate the habit of
providing service with regularity.
DABAWALAS BUSINESS MODEL:
In their business model there are two significant difference:

(a) They are not making the customer want more.

(b) Their driver is not profit but subsistence plus a little margin.
But the culture of globalization has confused speed with
greater accomplishment.

Dabawalas believe in Varkari Panth . Their motto is

Instead of becoming a pearl in the golden ring


We prefer to be a dewdrop and satisfy the
thirst of Swan .
The joy we get is eternal .

The philosophy is co-existence i.e. live and let other live also. The
people at the bottom of the pyramid have found space in economic wisdom
of marginal utility.
Hence dabawalas has the ability to accept change to create a dynamic
individual.
FACTORS THAT HELPS BUSINESS:
(A )GROUP:
Human beings have some needs that change rarely and
some needs that changes fast. Servicing the least changing
needs provides their livelihood and requires periodic
maintenance.

(B) Quality of food:


Freshness of home-made food must be retained.
Dabawalas can not deliver late. The operation had to be
carried out in 3-3.5 hours in the morning.

(C) Motivation :
This is an important factor. Since the work of
dabawalasrequire a lot of effort and time management. For
every good work the workers are applauded and are
appreciated.
(E) Making other understand the importance of work:
This is explained by an example. The police objected moving of
people during red light. But once the dabawalas explains them the
importance of time to the police, they also released them for the sake
of delivering food in time.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF DABAWALAS:

Ø An article was published namely Fast Food , ” Forbes


Global ” on October 8 , 1998.
Ø
Ø MTV and ZEE TV has produced documentaries.
Ø
Ø Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley ’ s Believe
it or Not have also recorded them.
Ø
ØThey had got chance to meet Prince Charles, The Prince of
Wales at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. This make them
popular all over the world.
Ø
ØApart from that Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic
Airlines travelled with them. He was dressed in Kurta- Pyjama and
white Gandhi cap.
Ø Their main achievement is that they are invited for the wedding
of Prince Charles and Camilla . Ganga and Sopan had decided the
attend the wedding. Due to their popularityAir India has offered
them free tickets . The TAJ hosted their stay in London and The
British Council paid the taxes.

WEDDING PLANNING:
Dabawalas travelled to London to attend the wedding. The
wedding was scheduled on 9th April 2005. They drove from Taj to
Baukingham Palace and finally to Windsor Castle. They met with
Maharani Padmavati Devi who works as interpretorfor them.

They also attempted to give some Indian touch to the


wedding by gifting ‘Mangalsutre ’ and Maharashtrian Silk saree
to Camilla and a well embroidered Maharashtrian Pheta to the
Prince. The couple had accepted the gift whole-heartedly and even
shake hand with them.

This was an unforgotten moment for the dabawalas.

MANTRA FOR SUCCESS:
Dabawalas believe in the thought that

If you expect affinity from others


You must first let go your ego
In it , you will find true meaning of life .

They also believe that…..


Customer is God and his satisfaction is more
important .

CONCLUSION:
Dabawalas understand the wavelength of customers . They
believe in pure time management and providing good servicing to the
customers. Their motto is

The harder you hold on loyality to old customers

With a dependable delivery service ,


it provides lasting business .
