complex sentences.

Complex sentences link two or more ideas


together within one sentence.
For example, here are two simple
sentences:
The man opened the door to his house.
He was pleased to be home.
These two ideas can be linked to make
one complex sentence.

As the man opened the


door to his house, he was
pleased to be home.
Examples of subordinate conjunctions you
can start a sentence with:
After, although, because, before, as, even ,
if, since, though, that, unless, until, when,
whenever, where, wherever, whether,
which, while, who, why.

The man opened the


door to his house,
pleased to be home.

The man, pleased to


be home, opened the
door to his house.

The woman could see


into the future.

The polar bear


snuggled into his

The lion fought for his


life.
