What is Persuasion?
Is the art of convincing others to give favorable
attention to our point of view.
it is a process aimed at changing a persons
attitude or behavior towards some event, idea,
object, or other persons, by using written or spoken
words to convey information, feelings, or reasoning,
or a combination of them. (business dictionary)
Persuasive Speech/Speaking
Intend to influence the beliefs, attitude,
values, and acts of others
Ex.
Sermon from religious leaders,
sales talks
Electoral speeches
Persuasion is propelled by a
reasoned/sound argument,
the cornerstone of persuasive
speeches. A fact or assertion offered
as evidence that something is true.
facts, statistics, personal testimonies, or
narratives
These are proofs to the argument.
Elements of an Argument
1.CLAIM is a declaration that
you want the audience to
accept.
2.DATA
refers
to
the
preliminary evidence on which
the claim is based.
Persuasive Strategies
ETHOS (Greek word for Ethical) speakers credibility to the
audience to have good moral character, common sense, and
concern for the audiences well-being.
Persuasive Strategies
LOGOS (argument) the logical means of providing an
argument. This is the content of speech.
Persuasive Strategies
PATHOS (emotional appeal) draws on the emotions,
sympathies, and prejudices of the audience to appeal to their
non-rational side.

Problem/Solution Order
One way in which to organize a speech is by
using theproblem/solution order. Start with
a problem statement and then present the
ideal solution to the audience. The challenge
comes in convincing the audience that there
really is a problem.
