ARC FLASH PROTECTION

PGR-8800
PGR-8800 ARC Flash Protection system is a high speed
device, for protection of Electrical systems against ARC Flash,
with Point and Fiber Optic Sensor technologies for optical
detection of ARC and generate redundant trip signal within 1
ms.

8/26/16

73

INTRODUCTION
In the event of an arc flash, System
needs to be tripped in less than
100ms to avoid major damage.
PGR-8800 combines the data from
reliable optical sensors along with
an efficient micro-controller based
algorithm to generate a trip within
1 ms of arc detection.
The system is easy to use and can
be easily retrofitted into an existing
power protection system without
major wiring changes.

Fault

TYPES OF ELECTRICAL HAZARDS: COSTLY AND DANGEROUS

Electric Shock - trauma caused by the passage of electric
current through the body.
Arc-Flash an unexpected sudden release of intense heat
and light energy produced by electricity traveling through
air, usually caused by accidental contact between live
conductors.
Arc-Blast - a pressure wave created by heating, melting,
vaporization, and expansion of conducting material and
surrounding air during an Arc-Flash.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN ARC FAULT

Voltage difference between two conductors (250V)
separated by air gap, high resistance
Voltage reaches breakdown point, rapid release of
energy across gap
Shortest distance from bus bar corner to bolt corner
Usually phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground
Energy limited only by system resistance, air gap
impedance

IDEA:

Current FCOMP FPGA based technology can be adopted to achieve

modularity

MCOMP-I Base module will have current & voltage connection, 2DI/2DO

Expansion communication module with dual port

Expansion DIO, AIO module
