02. RH Fractal
Rhombic hexacontahedra (RH) are placed on the vertices of a larger RH to
form a fractal composition. The vertices of RH coincide with the vertices of a
dodecahedron, so a dodecahedron fractal can be produced by replacing RH
with dodecahedron.

03. The Golden Ratio in Cub-Tet-Oct Relationship

The edge of an octahedron of length 1 and the edge of a smaller octahedron of length 1/ 0.61803
determine a straight line, one endpoint of which is at the face center of a matching cube, while its other
endpoint is on a sphere circumscribing the cube.

This Demonstration is based on

the relationship recognized by
Odom: suppose that the line
connecting the centers A and B
of any two faces of a cube
intersects the circumscribing
sphere at C. Then B divides AC
in the ratio 1.61803, the
golden ratio. Odom also noticed
the relationship to the two
added tetrahedra.

04. Helix of
Tetrahedra
Tetrahedra
are arranged in triples along a straight line. The edges of the tetrahedra
trace three helices. The vertices of the tetrahedra lie on a cylinder, as well as on two
helices, one that turns left and one that turns right.

05. Inside the Tetrahelix

Placing polyhedra inside a helix of
tetrahedra creates helices of octahedra,
cubes, and icosahedra.

06. Filling a Tetrahedron

Take an octahedron and place smaller octahedra on four of its faces.

Repeat this on the placed octahedra ad infinitum to fill a tetrahedron.
The first three stages are shown here.

07. Minimum Surface of Hexagonal Prism

A hexagonal prism P is capped with three rhombi at one of its ends. The surface area of P, designated S,
is minimized when d, the ratio of the diagonals of the rhombi, equals 1/Srt[2] 0.707107, which also
pertains to the faces of the rhombic dodecahedron. Honeycombs are likewise characterized by this
geometry.

d = ratio of diagonals = 0,7071, when the surface S is minimum

08. Golden Lines in Tringle

Define a golden line in an equilateral triangle as the line that connects a vertex of the triangle to the point
on the opposite edge that divides the edge in the golden ratio 1: . Each of the three golden lines is
divided by its intersections into three parts of sizes 1, , and 2. The points of intersection coincide with
the vertices of the regular icosahedron, octahedron, and tetrahedron. Dragging the "erect structure" slider
folds the four triangles into a tetrahedron

10. Ring of 190 Golden Rhombohedra

Ten rhombic hexecontahedra (RH), each consisting of 20 prolate golden rhombohedra (prGR), are joined in
a ring. The adjacent RHs have a common prGR, so the total number of prGRs in the ring is 10*20-10=190.
This Demonstration shows a few examples of the many possible structures that can be built on the ring of
the 10 common prGRs. The abbreviations are: rh=rhombic hexecontahedron, ico=icosohedron, rt=rhombic
triacontahedron, and tico=truncated icosohedron

12. Cube and Ocatahedron Sculpture

This conceptual design for a possible geometrical sculpture contains a cube, an octahedron, and some
fragments. First form an octahedron after expanding the six faces of a cube. Next, interconnect the cube with
eight sides of the octahedron. Finally, construct a central cubic frame.

13. Cubes on Hyprbolic Surface

Cubes are placed on a parabolic hyperboloid to graphically exhibit the geodesics
of a ruled surface

16. Sliding Cubes

Cubes are aligned side by side and then slid along their faces. Since the cube is
divided into an octet part and a tet part, it is possible to show how octahedra and
tetrahedra can be slid along one another. Also, the same arrangement is valid for
rhombohedra, if one diagonal of the cube is varied, possibly even to zero.

Potentially, this
Demonstration can be
used for exploring
possible crystal
structures. There may
also be applications in
architecture, for
example, tiling.

17. Rings Around the Vertices of Polyhedra

Toroidal rings are placed around the vertices of several types of
polyhedra.

18. Tetrahedron Built from RD

A tetrahedron can be built from rhombic dodecahedra or spheres. This Demonstration
illustrates many interesting mathematical aspects, such as sphere packing, space
filling, crystal lattices, sums of consecutive integers, and a relationship between
tetrahedra and octahedra.
