Foreword
This project was made by us Ahmed
Junan Ramzee and Athoof Abdul
Latheef(7E). Highlighting Air
pollution and Global Warming, and
their danger to us and the
environment. So, continue on to get
information.
Global Warming
In the days before the proliferation of large cities and industry, nature's
own systems kept the air fairly clean. Wind mixed and dispersed the
gases, rain washed the dust and other easily dissolved substances to the
ground and plants absorbed carbon dioxide and replaced it with oxygen .
With increasing urbanisation and industrialisation, humans started to
release more wastes into the atmosphere than nature could cope with.
Since then, more pollution has been added to the air by industrial,
commercial and domestic sources.
It is when these concentrated gases exceed safe limits that we have a
pollution problem
Scientists have spent decades figuring out what is causing global warming.
They've looked at the natural cycles and events that are known to
influence climate.
But the amount and pattern of warming that's been measured can't be
explained by these factors alone. The only way to explain the pattern is to
include the effect of greenhouse gases emitted by humans.
Carbon dioxide
It is a colour-less gas
Produced by the combustion of Organic matter
and
breathing out of animals
Today human activities pump a large amount of CO2 into
the atmosphere.
Chlorofluoro carbons
Damages ozone layer extensively
Remains for about 100 years in the atmosphere
Found in aerosols
Refrigerators
Air conditioners
fossil fuels
Gas or coal
Nitrogen Dioxide(NO2)
the two most prevalent oxides of nitrogen are nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and
nitric oxide (NO). Both are toxic gases with NO2 being a highly reactive
oxidant and corrosive. The primary sources indoors are combustion
processes, such as unvented combustion appliances.
e.g. gas stoves, vented appliances with defective installations, welding,
and tobacco smoke.
Eye, nose, and throat irritation. May cause impaired lung function and
increased respiratory infections in young children. EPA's Integrated Risk
