part of the laboratory that stores, distributes and examines bloods of

many patients. Different tests like hemoglobin tests, sedimentation rates,
staining, and washing of pipettes are conducted here. Knee space and
storage cabinets are provided below the counter. It is assumed that the
laboratory will obtain blood for transfusions from other sources and,
therefore needs only facilities for blood storage. A blood bank refrigerator
is provided for this purpose in the examination and test room.
Compatibility test on blood are done in the hematology unit. A hospital
which operates a self-contained blood bank (that collects and does
complete processing of all blood) should provide a separate bleeding
room, processing laboratory, donors recovery room and an office
available for preliminary physical examination.
