CYST
Pathologic epithelium
lined cavity, often
filled with liquid or
semi solid contents

ULCER
Lesion characterized
by the loss of surface
epithelium and
frequently some of
underlying connective
tissue. It often appears
depressed or excavated

EROSION
Superficial lesion, often arising
secondary to rupture of a vesicle or
bulla, that is characterized by partial
or total loss of surface epithelium

MACULE
Focal area of color
change which is not
elevated or depressed in
relation to its
surroundings.

PAPULE
Solid, raised
lesion which is
less than 5mm in
diameter

Plaque
Lesion that is slightly elevated and is flat on its
surface

NODULE
Solid , raised lesion which
is greater than 5mm in
diameter.

VESICLE
Superficial blister , 5mm
or less in diameter,
usually filled with clear
fluid.

BULLA
Large blister , greater than 5mm in diameter .

PUSTULE
Blister filled with purulent exudates

PETECHIA
Round , pinpoint
area of hemorrhage.

ECCHYMOSIS
Non - elevated area of
hemorrhage , larger than
petechia.

TELANGIECTASIA
Vascular lesion caused by dilation of a small ,
superficial blood vessel

HEMANGIOMA
They are tumors identified
by rapid endothelial cell
proliferation in early
infancy , followed by
involution over time.

HAMARTOMA
A tumor like, non-neoplastic disordered proliferation of
mature tissues that are natve to a site of origin . eg: exostosis ,
nevi .

ABSCESS
It is collection of pus or
purulent matter in the tissues ,
tissue spaces , organs of the
body . It is the result of a
morbid process.

FISTULA
A drainage pathway or abnormal communication
between two epithelium lined surfaces coz
of destruction of the intervening tissue

CELLULITIS
Cellulitis is a diffuse inflamation of soft tissues which is not
circumscribed or confined to one area , but which tends to
spread through tissue spaces and along facial planes as a
result of infection.

CHORISTOMA
Non-specialized tissue that develops in utero , which corresponds to
normal cells and tissues located in abnormal sites . eg: ectopic liver .

TERATOMA
A type of germ cell tumor , that may contain several different types of
tissues and sometimes mature elements such as hair ,muscle , bone . they
occur most often in ovary , testis and in sacrococcygeal region in children .

HEMORRHAGE
Bleeding or the abnormal flow of blood from a ruptured blood vessel .

LUDWIGS ANGINA
Ludwigs angina is a type of cellulitis , which is potentially life
threatening , rapidly expanding , diffuse inflamation of submandibular and
sublingual spaces that occurs most often in young adults with dental
infections .

NEOPLASM
It is defined as an abnormal mass of tissue , the growth of which
exceeds and is uncoordinated with that of the normal tissue and
persists in the same excessive manner after cessation of the stimuli
which evoked the change.

ACANTHOSIS
Excessive thickening of
the spinous layer of
squamous epithelium,
resulting in broadening
and elongation of the
rete pegs

CARCINOMA IN SITU
The most severe stage of epithelial
dysplasia, involving the entire
thickness of the epithelium, with the
epithelial basement membrane
remaining intact
