LEADERSHIP
Not all leaders are entrepreneurs, but entrepreneurs are leaders
in their own right, focus is on entrepreneurship orientation of
leaders and leadership styles inclined towards entrepreneurship
There is participative leadership- participative leadership is
entrepreneurial in that it harnesses all ideas form the
employees, management and stakeholders.
managers are given the platform to independently make
decisions in their functions for example come up with a unique
marketing strategy in a region, country e.t.c. This is quite
entrepreneurial as it enables the best response to customer
needs thus ensuring excellent competitiveness.
Leadership has also adopted a laisez faire style for example ,
North London Coca Cola Branch ethos or culture has been a
laisez faire style meaning hands off approach

CULTURE

An entrepreneurial culture often starts at the top.

An organisation that is entrepreneurial in nature promotes
innovation, risk taking and pro activeness.
Through an organisations values, a culture is determined
Coca has the following values that promote an
entrepreneurial culture through the following values:
Excellence - we strive to amaze with passion and speed,
Learning - we listen and have a natural curiosity to learn,
caring for our people - we believe in our people, invest in
them and we empower them
performing as one - we believe in the power of working
together, contributing in every occasion, winning with our
customers, our customers are at the heart of everything
we do.
9

CULTURE cont
Within the firm, innovativeness, risk taking
posture, and proactiveness will directly affect
the capacity to be creative and entrepreneurial.
Do the underlying beliefs and assumptions that
employees have regarding their conduct and
expectations (i.e., culture), support original
thought, calculated risk, and action?
These are the firm behaviors that foster change
and produce new opportunities.
Corporate entrepreneurship is not determined
by desire, but by organizational culture and
action.
10

Culture: cont
Coca cola is innovative in nature as they constantly change
their packaging to suit the taste of their customers.
Through their vast products, they have specific products
that suit different customer needs, eg diet coke for
diabetic customers, different bottle sizes that suit different
needs while they have disposable and non disposable
bottles.
Coca cola is environmentally conscious as they respond to
globalisation by using recyclable containers/plastic bottles.
Coca cola has proven to be risk takers by diversifying into
other portfolios, eg the Dasani water project and the
minute maid project also sells 100% fruit juices to cater for
the market that does not want fizzy drinks.

STRUCTURE
The Entrepreneurial Audit facilitates the process
to identify the capabilities, structure, and
competence of a company as they relate to
entrepreneurial potential.
Organizational structure is a mechanism that can
either help or derail entrepreneurial endeavors.
People, communication, and ideas are built to
support innovation, yet they can also interfere.
Structure can be flat, tall or centralised vs
decentralised structures

12

STRUCTURE Conti.
Because of the nature of Coca cola, it has a tall
structure but however decentralises decision
making. Eg the Zimbabwe subsidiary can make
independent decisions.
There is room for innovation since there are many
subsidiaries in different parts of the world, thus
there is quick response to competition (PEPSI)
through innovative ideas. Eg, recently, Coca cola
reduced their PET 500ml soft drink bottle sizes
that were costing $1.50 but not affordable to
everyone to 300ml bottle sizes now costing $1.00.

STRATEGY
The entrepreneurial audit begins with
assessing the fundamentals of the
corporation, that is the Strategy.
For an organization to succeed in today's
ultra-competitive global environment, it is
essential to understand the strategic
capabilities and areas of strengths.
The company's mission and vision set a
direction for an organization that is a
central point for all strategic decisions, both
for current business and new innovation.
14

Strategy Cont
Vision
The following questions should be asked to see if the strategy
is entrepreneurial in nature.
What is the five-year vision of the organization? Can the
organization articulate the role innovation plays in that vision?
Mission
The mission defines where the company is headed.
What is the mission of coca cola and is the mission
entrepreneurial in nature?
Strategic Assets
Strategic assets are those resources the organization relies
on to create current revenue flow. They are also the assets the
organization relies on to engage a new opportunity and are the
genesis for sustainable competitive advantage.
