Whats the Point?

As a kickoff to our melodic
composition unit, we need to feel
comfortable putting notes into the
staff.
You and a partner will get an
assignment sheet, a pencil, a set of
dice and a white board to use as a
hard surface.
You will be composing in treble clef.

What to do?
You and your partner will decide whether
you want to compose in time or 4/4
time.
Each of you will then take turns rolling
your two dice and recording your results
on the composition sheet.
Once you have finished your four
measures of melody, take out a xylophone
and see how you do playing it.

How to figure it all out

Roll your two dice and figure out the sum
of the two numbers.
Find the note that correlates with your
dice number and record your findings.
For example, you roll this.

You would then find the note that matches the

five and place it on the staff.
The rhythms are completely up to you. Just
make sure your measures are complete.
