Elements of a substation
Substation generally have switching, protection and control equipment
and one or more transformers.
At Sarojani nagar substation Lucknow, the high voltage 400KV is stepdown low voltage 220KV.
At this substation, there are four lines come from
Kursi Road
Singrauli(PGCIL)
Unnao
Barielly(PGCIL)

Three Buses are used at this substation. Which are: Main Bus-1
Main Bus-2
Transfer Bus

LIGHTNING ARRESTER
The overvoltage protection is obtained by the use of lightning/surge arresters.
Lightning arrester are always connected in shunt to the equipment to be
protected, they provide a low impedance path for the surge current to ground .

ISOLATOR
A isolator switch is used to make sure that an electrical circuit can be completely de energised for

maintenance

TRANSFORMER
A Transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to
another through inductively coupled the transformer coils. A varying current in
the primary winding creates a varying magnetic field through the secondary
winding. The varying magnetic field induces the varying electromotive
force(EMF) or voltage in the secondary winding this effect is called mutual
induction. The rating of transformer is 315 MVA which installed in 400 kv
switchyard

EMULSIFIRE SYSTEM

Emulsifier system is a fixed fire protection system in which the pipe

system is empty of water and kept pressurized with dry air, until the fire
condition is detected and the deluge valve is operated to distribute
pressurized water to the nozzles or sprinklers directing the water onto the
protected object

SILICA GEL

Silica or silicon dioxide is found in QUARTZ.

The gel form of silica contains millions on tiny pores that can absorb and hold
moisture.

WAVE TRAP

Wave trap are used in power system for carrier communication.

It trap higher frequency above 50 Hz.
It is effort to utilize the same transmission line between two substation for the
purpose of communications.

CIRCUIT BREAKER

A Ciruit Breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch.

In a simple word circuit breaker is an equipment which can open/closed a circuit
under all condition.

CURRENT TRANSFORMER

The current transformer are used to stepped down.

It is used to measurement/protection/control.

SHUNT REACTOR
Shunt reactor limit the overvoltage.
It limit the transfer of reactive power in the network.
Power rating of reactors are 50 MVAR & 63.5 MVAR.

CAPACITOR VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER

A capacitor voltage transformer(CVT) is a transformer used in power

system to step down extra high voltage signals and provide low voltage signals
either for measurement or to operate a protective relay
