Patients who use denture has some possibilities
that could cause it to suffer from xerostomia. Patients
who use denture may be experiencing or hiposekresi
salivary hypersecretion. Issues related to xerostomia
problem is that if the salivary secretion in patients
less than normal in saliva secretion and cause dry
mouth.

XEROSTOMIA RELATIONSHIP WITH LIFE IN THE

MOUTH MICROORGANISMS
There are several microorganisms that thrive in the
human mouth. The oral cavity is a new baby born free of
microorganisms, but only within a few hours had become
colonized bacteria. Streptococcus salivarius has been grown
on the first day, as well as Veillonella alcascens, lactobasilli,
and Candida albicans. Actinomyces and other anaerobes new
look after one month of birth, whereas Streptococcus sanguis
and Streptococcus mutans grow new teeth following the
eruption of milk.

Treatment of dry mouth

Treatment for dry mouth is divided into three steps; Substitution of saliva,
saliva stimulation, and prevention of caries and fungal infections (candida).
Saliva substitutes
When choosing a mouthwash, the patient should use a mouthwash that does
not contain alcohol, because alcohol-containing mouthwashes will actually worsen
dry mouth.
Salivary stimulation
Chewing gum helps stimulate saliva flow, but do not use chewing gum
containing sugar because it will actually increase the risk of caries. Other drugs that
can increase the salivary flow is pilocarpine and cevimeline. Artificial saliva
substitutes and oral lubricants containing glycerin will also help during the process
of eating and talking. It does not cure xerostomia, but will help and give a feeling of
comfort for the sufferer.
Preventing caries and candida infection.
Gingivitis, periodontal disease, and fungal infections are a major
complication of the condition of dry mouth. Dry mouth environment that will make
the plaque is difficult to control, so that care and oral hygiene and thorough tooth
becomes very important in preventing caries, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.
Patients with dry mouth should be applying the low-sugar diet and taking care of
their teeth with fluoride and antimicrobial rinse to combat dry mouth effect on teeth
and oral tissues. Using toothpaste with fluoride levels, adequate calcium and
phosphate that will help protect and me-tooth remineralization.
