An evolved core network, the Evolved Packet Core is at the same time devel

The philosophy of the SAE is to focus on the packet-switched domain, and
migrate away from the circuit-switched domain

Functions
The SPUa and SPUb boards support both GSM and UMTS
The SPUa board has four logic subsystems, the SPUb board ha
s eight logic subsystems. Therefore, the processing capability
of the SPUb board is higher than the SPUa board by 75% to 1
00%

The boards can be classified into five types according to physical functions:
The processor boards of the SGSN9810 can be classified into the following
types according to logical functions:
OMU (Operation & Maintenance Unit)
The ECU is responsible for processing the services associated with the contr
ol plane and implementing the charging function.
EPU (Enhanced Packet forward Unit)
The EPU is responsible for processing the services associated with the user
plane.
The interface boards of the SGSN9810 service boards are classified into the following types:
Universal Service Interface (USI)
As the rear board of the OMU, the USI provides precise time and maintains the GE interface.
E1/T1 Interfac (ETI)
As the rear board of the ECU, the ETI provides the E1/T1 interfaces for the Gb interface, SS7 interfaces, and extensible IP ov
er E1 interfaces.
Packet Forward Interface (PFI)
As the rear board of the EPU, the PFI provides the access to the broadband interfaces such as ATM, POS, and GE together
with the interface subboards.
SONET and SDH Interface (SSIA0/1/2)
As the rear board of the ECU, SSIA0/1/2 provides E1/T1 interfaces and channelized STM-1 optical interfaces for processing
narrowband services. The SSIA0 provides two channelized STM-1 optical interfaces, The SSIA1 provides one channelized ST
M-1 optical interface and two 10/100/1000 Mbit/s auto-sensing electrical interfaces. The SSIA2 provides one channelized ST
M-1 optical interface and 16 E1 interfaces.
10G Interface (XGIA)
As the rear board of the EPU, the XGIA provides ten 10GE optical interfaces and four GE optical interfaces.
The interface boards of the SGSN9810 service boards are classified into the following types:
Time Master Interface (TMI)
The TMI provides the clock distribution function and is used in the basic subrack that supports cascading between subrack
s.
Time Slave Interface (TSI)
The TSI provides the clock receive function and is used in the extended subrack that supports cascading between subracks.
Function
OMU
is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, alarm, and performance functions of the
entire system.
ECU
processes the services and performs the charging function related to the control plane.
EPU
USI
is installed in the rear slot of the OMU, and provides precise time and maintains GE interfaces.

Process
A process is the execution of a program on the processor. A process indicates one time of cal
culation and can be executed concurrently with other calculation processes. One process in
SGSN9810 V009 corresponds to one board in SGSN9810 V008.
Process group
According to a certain proportion, multiple processes of different types can be bound to a pr
ocess group.
