What is Robotics?
Robotics is the science and technology behind the
design, manufacturing and application of robots. Where
Artificial Intelligence meets the real world.
What is Robot?
A robot is a machine designed to execute one or more
tasks repeatedly, with speed and precision.

What is the difference between robot and robotics:

Robots are artificial devices that replicates human work
while robotics an art of how to develop a robot.

Why robotics is needed?

-Speed
-Can work in hazardous/dangerous temperature
-Can do repetitive tasks
-Can do work with accuracy

First use of the word

Robotics
The word robot was introduced to the public by Czech writer
Karel Capek(1890-1938) in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's
Universal Robots), published in 1920.

The word "robotics", used to describe this field of

study, was coined accidentally by the Russian born ,
American scientist and science fiction writer, Isaac
Asimov in 1940s.

Laws
of
Robotics
Laws of Robotics
Zeroth Law: A robot may not injure
humanity, or, through inaction,
humanity to come to harm

allow

First Law: A robot may not injure a human being, or,

through inaction, allow a human being to come to
harm, unless this would violate a higher order law

Second Law: A robot must obey orders given it

by human beings, except where such orders
would conflict with a higher order law

Third Law: A robot must protect its own

existence as long as such protection does not
conflict with a higher order law.

Humanoid Robot
A humanoid robot is a robot with its body
shape built to resemble that of the human
body. A humanoid design might be for
functional purposes, such as interacting with
human
tools
and
environments,
for
experimental purposes, such as the study of
bipedal locomotion, or for other purposes.

Some humanoid robots may also have heads

designed to replicate human facial features such
as eyes and mouths.Androids are humanoid
robots built to aesthetically resemble humans.

Why Humanoids?

Are there any good reasons for doing research

on humanoid robots?

Work in dangerous environments

Exhaustive and repetitive tasks.
Division of labor with humans in cooperative tasks
Anthropomorphism
Embodiment
Interaction and Communication

First Humanoid Robotics

With 2000's ASIMO model Honda added many
features, labeled "Intelligence Technology", that
enable ASIMO to interact better with humans.
These features fall under 5 categories:
1. Recognition of moving objects
2. Posture/gesture recognition
3. Environment recognition
4. Sound recognition
5. Face recognition.

SPACE EXPLORATION
Robots are mostly
used in space
research.
Its can easily
works in harmful
space where
human being
cant perform.

Research &Development
Robots are used in
research
&
development
for
better
working
in
hazardous condition.
To reduce human
effort & to increase
efficiency
during
varying installation &
assemblies.

Disadvantages

People can lose jobs in factories

It needs a supply of power
It needs maintenance to keep it running
It costs money to make or buy a robot
