COURSE SUBJECT
DESCRIPTION

This course makes senior high school students

aware of the developmental stage that they are in,
for them to better understand themselves and the
significant people around them as they make
important career decisions as adolescents.
The course aims to help senior high school students
clarify the values that define their person, discover
their interests and passions, realize their innate
skills and strengths, and embrace their
weaknesses as challenges to face and work on.
At the end of senior high school, the students will
decide on the career path or choice that he or she
will take. To decide on this the individual should

4.

5.

Human nature is very complex. No single school of

thought can completely and satisfactorily define
human nature.
Human beings are different as we possess more
complex capabilities such as self-awareness, analytical
thinking, self-evaluation, motivation, decision making
and reflective thought.
It is therefore natural for human beings to develop
toward maturity and fullness. (Carl Rogers 1961)
The evolution of the understanding of human
development may have started aeons ago when the
first Homo sapiens walked the face of the earth.
The Western Philosophers (the Greek thinkers)
started questions about the self and about being
human.

NATURE OF PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT

Plato argued that building character, as

much as intelligence, is what education is all
about.
There is a link between individual
development and social responsibility.
Eastern thinking, the great Chinese,
thought about mans always desire to become
superior man to himself and to others.
(Confucius: What constitutes a Superior
Man)
Religions may have influenced to personal
development .
