INTRODUCTION
The original Magnolia Bakery was opened in 1996 by
Jennifer Appel and Allysa Torey.
The bakery began making cupcakes with leftover cake
batter, and the cupcakes subsequently became very
popular with customers.
In 1999, co-owner Jennifer Appel left the business after a
disagreement about expansion plans.
Appel opened Buttercup Bake Shop in the Midtown East
section of Manhattan.
In 2006, Allysa Torey sold Magnolia Bakery to a new
owner, Steve Abrams, who now serves as the CEO of the
company.

HISTORY

Magnolia Bakeryis a chain of bakeries founded in New York City.

2) The first location opened in 1996 at 401Bleecker Street, in theWest


Villageneighbourhood ofManhattan by Jennifer Appel and Alyssa Torey.

entitledThe Magnolia Bakery Cookbook: Old-Fashioned Recipes from
New York's Sweetest Bakery.

Many cakes varieties are available, all old-fashioned cake
recipes ranging from Yellow Cake with vanilla frosting to
Hummingbird Cake topped with bananas, pineapples and pecans.
There is also a Red Velvet cake.

In addition to the thousands of cupcakes they bake each day,


they find time to bake pies too. Their key lime pies are made with
a spicy, dark molasses gingersnap crust filled with a creamy and
very sharp key lime filling . Each bite was like downing hot lava
rocks; the crumbly spicy gingersnap.

The Magnolia Bakery also makes rice crispy treats, and


banana pudding, all old-fashioned, old-time desserts made with

Future Plans
Steve Abrams said before at 2011 that he had
expansion plans, but wanted to stay true to his
roots as the corner bakery.
That's why all his stores in the United States are
company owned. No franchising. No partnerships.
No license deals. It can't be done by a franchisee.
It's too complicated.
Today, Magnolia can be found in New York City, Los
Angeles, Chicago, Mexico City, Tokyo, Moscow City,
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Beirut, Kuwait City and Doha.

At 2011, Steve Abrams is 53 years old. Ultimately,


He said that he have an end game of cashing out
[through a sale to a strategic buyer] but there are
many ways to get there. At the end of the day, we
sell baked goods. It's not rocket science. If we're
not laughing, we're not doing our jobs right.
Now they continue to seek high quality franchisees
throughout other regions of the world.
