7 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO USE

POWERPOINT

STEP ONE

Illustrate the content of your speech


Use images, graphs, charts, maps, etc.

Use quotations and major ideas

STEP TWO

Limit how many words and bullet points you use


per slide
No more than 8 lines of text
No more than 8-10 words per line
Charts and graphs also shouldnt contain much
information

STEP THREE

Try not to use fancy transition slides or


animations
They add no value and most people think they
are tacky
Keep it simple, the information is important

STEP FOUR

Make sure your slides and text are readable


Use the proper background, high-contrast color
schemes
Use the templates PowerPoint provides,
because they work well visually
Use high resolution pictures

STEP FIVE

Practice and rehearse your PowerPoint


Know what it entails, you dont want to read
straight from the slides
Be able to give the speech without looking at
the PowerPoint

STEP SIX

Use black slides


You dont need text on every slide
It lets the audience focus on your speech, not
just the PowerPoint
Put a black screen as your last slide to indicate
your presentation is over

STEP SEVEN

Move around as you speak


Use a clicker so you can keep audience engaged
and they arent just looking at the screen
Point to the screen to indicate importance in a
slide
