ELL School Funding


For ELL teachers:
80%

of funding goes toward ELL teacher

pay
5% goes to ELL teacher translators at
$50/hr. at parent-teacher conferences
15% of funding goes to the after school
tutoring program

Responsibilities
Pull out students for English Language Assistance
Each

day is a subject day where vocabulary is


taught to the students
Example: Monday: ELA, Tuesday: SS
Teacher interaction
ELL teacher creates a monthly student goals
checklist
Primary classroom teacher receives final checklist
at the end of each month to indicate which goals
have been achieved

ELL Student Classroom Assignment

Each classroom has 5 ELL

students
Each grade has 20 ELL students
in it

Parental Involvement
Parents are brought in quarterly for conferences on

students progress
If parents cannot attend, a conference call can be
made for progress report
Folders for take-home give parents the opportunity
to view and sign their childs work
Translators will be hired for conferences where
parents do not speak English

After-school Program
The school will provide an after school

program that students can attend for


tutoring
Parents are encouraged to be there and can
be taught words or given pointers about the
English language

Instructional Strategies
A hybrid approach to instruction where both English and bilingual

educational approaches are used


Scaffolding understanding
Graphic organizers, visual aids, and peer help
Gives the opportunity and the necessary support to meet rigorous
academic standards
Purposeful grouping
Gives students opportunity for extended interaction
Peers who speak English can provide models on how to use English
word structure

Background knowledge

Provides students will education that taps into their schema, bridges
old knowledge and new knowledge to increase understanding
