9.2 Wheel Alignment

Make sure you have the correct tools for the
job. Digital camber gauges are quick and easy
to use [Fig.1]. For measuring toe [Fig. 2], you
will need toe plates or a toe bar. The plates
are cheaper, and each has two slots for
holding measuring tapes. You will also have to
find a flat piece of concrete on which to take
measurements and make the adjustments.
Some cars use shims for toe and camber
adjustments. If this is the case with your car,
youll need shims of varying thicknesses on
hand.
Measure your cars toe and camberat both
axles and write down the measurements.
Youll need those figures in the event your
new setup doesnt work well. You should also
check and recheck alignment after making
any changes because changing camber can,
in turn, change toe, and vice versa. Also,
torque the nuts when the car is on the ground
so the bushings do not make a lot of nasty
noise. Then choose the axle youre going to
adjust.

Camber adjustment:

Jack up the car and check out the

suspension geometry. Its a good idea to
make a simple drawing of the suspension
for reference. Most modern cars have
eccentric, or off-center, bolts holding the
suspension arms and links to the car [Fig.3].
By loosening a nut at one end and twisting
the head of the eccentric, the axis of the
bolt changes, affecting the links location
and, thus, changing camber. You will be able
to see the suspension move as you change
the eccentrics orientation. From your initial
measurement, estimate how much the
eccentric will have to rotate and make
small, logical changes. Also, some camber
adjustments happen at the top of the shock
tower. Tighten the nuts, lower the car, and
roll it back four feet, then push it back to
the same place. Measure camber; if its
within spec, torque the eccentric nut and
redo this step on the other side of the car. If
not, start this step over.

Toe adjustments:
Jack up the car and make
changes to the toe-control links (at the rear
axle) or to the tie rods (for the front axle
[Fig.4]). If your car has toe-control links,
adjustments are similar to those for eccentric
camber adjustment. Adjusting toe at the front
axle requires loosening the tie-rod locknut and
then spinning the tie rod to change its length.
Remember that if your toe spec calls for an
inch of toe-in, you only want to add a half-inch
per side. Tighten any fasteners and lower the
car. Roll the car back and forth and measure
toe. If it is within spec, torque the eccentric
nut or tie-rod locknut (with the car on the
ground) and then redo this step on the other
side of the car. If not, start this step over.
Return to step three, now starting with the
other axle. If you have to repeat this step,
remember to check toe and camber again.
Double-checkthe tightness of all the bolts
and nuts you touched. Test the alignment on
the track.

9.3 Clean & Adjust Spark Plugs

Disconnect Negative (-) Cable from Battery.

Remove 10mm bolt on igniters. Then remove
igniters.
Using a spark plug wrench, unscrew each
spark plug one or two turns to loosen any
carbon deposits in the plug base.
Blow out all carbon and dirt from each spark
plug hole with compressed air.
Remove the plugs carefully.
Inspect the plug for serviceability. Check for
burned and eroded electrodes, blistering of
porcelain at the firing tip, cracked porcelain, or
black deposits and fouling. Replace bad or
worn plugs in sets.
Measure and adjust the electrode gap of each
plug with a wire gauge of feeler gauge.
Re-install the plugs.

(Poor Spark Plug)

9.4 Clean & check Battery

Check electrode level in each battery cell. Topup with distilled water to bring to proper level.
Check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in
each cell of the battery using a hydrometer.
1.220 to 1.230 sp. Gr. indicates a fully charged
condition. Below 1.150 sp. Gr. indicates that the
battery needs recharging.
Clean the Battery terminals and cable
connectors.
Check the tightness of the terminal screws to
ensure good electrical connections.
Check the tightness of the negative ground
cable connection at the frame to ensure a good
ground connection.
Load test the battery. Connect a voltmeter
across the battery. If the voltage does not drop
below 10 volts on a 12 volts battery, the
battery is satisfactory.
Be sure the engine ground strap connection is
tight at both ends.
If the battery is not satisfactory, install a fully
charged battery to allow completion of the
tune- up.

Check brake master cylinder for crack,
damage and brake fluid leakage. IF check
result is not OK, replace brake master
cylinder.

(Brake Master Cylinder)

9.6 Throttle Body Cleaning

Clean throttle body bore (1) and idle air
passage (2) by blowing compressed air.

(Throttle body)

9.7 Air Bleeding of Brake Sys

Fill master cylinder reservoir with new brake
fluid and keep at least one-half full of fluid
during bleeding operation.

(Master cylinder)

Remove bleeder plug cap. Attach a vinyl

tube (1) to bleeder plug, and insert the other
end into container (2).

Depress brake pedal several times, and

then while holding it depressed, loosen
bleeder plug about one-third to one-half
turn.
When fluid pressure in cylinder is
almost depleted, retighten bleeder plug.
Repeat this operation until there are no
more air bubbles in hydraulic line.

After bleeding all air, tighten bleeder

plug keeping brake pedal depressed.
Front
Rear

Attach bleeder plug cap.

After completing bleeding operation, apply
fluid pressure to pipe line and check for
leakage.
Replenish reservoir with new fluid up to
specified level.
Check brake pedal for sponginess. If found
spongy, repeat entire procedure of
bleeding.

9.8 Front Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation

Removal
Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel.
Remove brake flexible hose joint bolt (1)
from caliper (2). As this will allow fluid to
flow out of hose (3), have a container
ready beforehand

Remove caliper from caliper carrier.Remove caliper pin bolts

Installation
Install caliper to caliper carrier.
Torque caliper pin bolts to specification.

Connect flexible hose (3) with new hose washer

(4) to caliper as shown in figure.

Torque flexible hose joint bolt to

specification.
Tighten bleeder plug to specified torque.
Install front wheel.
After completing the installation of wheel,
fill reservoir with brake fluid and bleed air
from brake system.
Check every installed part for fluid leakage.
Perform brake test and check fluid leakage.

9.9 Clutch Plate

Replacement
Put Your Car in a Secure Position.
Get the Transaxle Ready for Removal.
Unbolt the Engine Mount.
Remove the Clutch and Repair the
Flywheel.
Replace the Damaged Clutch.
Reinstall the Transaxle.
The clutch is among the consumable part in an
automobile.
It gets worn out after some thousand kilometers.
So it is important to replace the clutch plate and
pressure plate when required.
For that, we would have to take the whole
transmission unit off.
So we have to remove all the connected wires and
mountings.
After that remove all the bolts which connects the
gearbox to the clutch housing.
Once those are removed, we can easily take the
gear box out.(which would be kind of heavy)
Now the clutch is easily accessible and we can now
remove the clutch plate and the pressure plate by
un-mounting the bolts

8.5 Fuel Pump Replacement

Disconnect the filler tube hose and the

electrical connection to the pump.
Support the fuel tank with a jack and a
block of wood. Remove any retaining straps
or bolts holding the tank to the frame.
Lower the tank.
Disconnect the fuel lines and remove the
fuel pump from the tank.
Compare the new fuel pump with the
original to verify that you have the correct
part. Install the new fuel pump

Fuel pump

8.5 Battery Water Top-Up

The electrolyte is too low if any part of the
plates is exposed to air. If the plates are not
fully covered with electrolyte, then the
battery cannot operate at full capacity
Exposing the plates to air ruins the area
exposed to air in a matter of days.
If the electrolyte is only about 1/2 inch (1
cm) below the top of the plates, adding
enough water to the battery to just cover the
plates may return it to serviceable condition
at a slightly reduced capacity. (Instructions
for adding water follow in Part 3 of this wiki
article.) Otherwise, you will need to consider
replacing the battery.
A low electrolyte level could be caused by
overcharging, so if this is the case, you
should consider having your alternator
checked.

8.5 Spark Plugs Replacement

Only remove them when the engine is cool

enough to touch. In the mean time,
assemble your tools while you wait for your
engine to cool. To change your spark plugs,
you'll need:
A ratchet socket drive wrench
An extension bar
Spark plug socket, usually included in most
ratchet socket sets

9.10 A/C Gas Replacing

The AC of Car has nitrogen gas filled into

its parts for cooling.
These parts due to wear makes the gas
to leak from the
joints.
We have to check the pressure of the
gas to see if the gas is being leaked or
not.
If it does then we have to dip the whole
system into soap water and find the
leakage.

A/C gas fiiling

A/C Gas recovery machine

9.11 A/C Filter Replacing

Open the glove box.
Remove the limiting stop arm.
Release the glove box.
Remove the old cabin air filter.
Clean filter chamber and check
seals and gaskets
Install the new cabin air filter

9.12 A/C Blower Cleaning

Place a mat on the floor outside the

passenger door to access the blower unit
of the A/C
Push the clip and remove the power
socket
Remove the wiring harness from the tab
to free the blower off the wiring harness.
Using the star screw driver / 8 mm flan
socket, remove the three screws holding
the blower.
Take the blower out and clean it
thoroughly and re-fit the same way as
above in the reverse order.

9.13 Cooling Coil

The exterior portion contains the
compressor, condenser andcoolingfan. A
central air conditioning unit circulates
refrigerant through a series of condensers
andcoilsto remove heat from the air in a
building. Theevaporator coilcontains
refrigerant, which extracts the heat and
humidity from the inside air.

9.14 Battery Voltage Check

Check and clean the battery terminals.
The positive lead on a voltmeter is usually
red.
Attach the negative voltmeter lead to the
negative battery terminal.
If your battery is in good condition, the
voltage should be between 12.4 and 12.7
volts. A reading lower than 12.4 volts means
that your battery needs to be charged.
If the reading is lower than 12.2 volts,
"trickle charge" the battery, which is a slow
charge. And then re-check.
If the reading is over 12.9 volts, you have
excessive voltage. Turn on the high beams
to remove excessive voltage surface
charge. Over voltage may be an indication
the alternator is over charging the batter

9.15 Light Replacement

The Lights are occasionally replaced if

damaged.
The bulbs of the lights, more often
gets blown due to fatigue.
The parts which are to be replaced
are just meant to unscrewed and
placed by new ones.

9.16 Gear Oil Replacement

The gear oil lubricates the whole

transmission system.
It is different in terms of viscosity and
working temperature than other oils.
The same kind of oil is used in the
differential .
Is needed to be replaced by every 40,000
Kms.

9.17 Drum Break Cleaning

The drum brake is mostly on the
rear wheel.
The drum is not air tight and as a
result for that we have the
consequences.
Mostly dust particles are gathered
inside the brake drum and we have
to remove that drum in-order to
maintain the brake.

9.18 Coolant Change

As
pre
schedule
of
preventive
maintenance, the engine oil of the car
should be changed on regular basis.

There has been provided an Allen Key

nut at the bottom of oil sump, which has
to be unscrewed allowing all the oil to
drip out.

Once the engine is fully rinsed with oil,

the Allen Key should again be tighten and
ensure to be leak-proof.

Using a filter-wrench open the oil filter

located beside the oil sump.

Take a new filter and apply some of the

residue oil on the gasket, and we can now
install the new filter to the car.

9.19 Air Filter Replacement

If you need assistance finding the
correct filter, an auto p\arts store or its
website can help you identify the
correct filter that fits your vehicle's
airbox. Try to get the stock filter that
comes with your vehicle to get the most
engine life and fuel efficiency out of
your vehicle.
The air box housing is usually situated
near the engine along a duct that
travels from the front of the car. On
older cars with carburetors the filter is
usually under a bulky, round cover
made of plastic or metal.
Newer, fuel-injected cars tend to have
a square or rectangular air filter housing
can be found slightly off centre between
the front grill and the engine.

9.20 Engine Oil & Oil Filter

Change
Oil filters work in a multi-pass system
that allows engine oil to continually pass
through the filter and remove dirt. A
vehicles entire oil supply is filtered
between four and five times every minute
and their function is to allow only clean
filtered oil through to the engine.
Ryco oil filters are designed to meet or
exceed
the
vehicle
manufacturers
specification and provide optimal filtration
for the specified service interval. Ryco
achieve this by measuring the three
critical areas of efficiency, life and flow

Diesel Filter Change

The purpose of a diesel filter is to protect
the injection system on diesel vehicles.
Diesel filters eliminate impurities present in
the fuel in various ways:
Contamination during production, transport,
stocking, repairs, etc.
Particles entering via the fuel tank
ventilation system.
Contamination by dirt and oxidation in the
fuel tanks or pipes.
Condense water in the fuel tank, due to
changes in the temperature
These contaminants can plug the injection
systems causing engine malfunction and
deterioration. Diesel filters modules also
fulffil other functions meeting the specific
requirements of each application: fuel
heating, pressure regulation, priming, water
level detection, etc...

SOGEFI develops its products in partnership

with the major automobile manufacturers. Its
expertise in the field of diesel fuel filtration
covers
conventional
injection
systems
(distributor pump) as well as the most
demanding common rail systems. Through the
use of advanced pleating technology and the
constant improvement of the filter media
used, FRAM provides patented solutions
tailored to increasing demands and to longer
filter replacement intervals, while maintaining
a minimal filter volume.
FRAM is offering the most complete range of
Diesel filters, cartridge, spin on and complete

keep your work area organized and clean.

Fire hazard
Fire hazard presents the next primary danger to
an area where dust is not collected and
disposed of. Install a smoke alarm and fire
extinguisher. Anywhere dust has settled, a fire
path is presented from the spark or flame
source to anything combustible within the shop.
Uncontrolled and uncollected, airborne dust
particles settle and build up on any exposed
area or item in the work area. In a studio
workshop, where all aspects of carving are dealt
with many situations are presented wherein a
spark is generated.
A few worthy of consideration are:
Electrical motors and any heat or spark
generating electrical appliances.
Switches, outlets, and light bulbs.
Sparks generated from grinding metal when
sharpening tools.
Assembling metal armatures, bird legs and
supports with soldering iron or torch.

Heating elements.
Torches used for soldering and bit cleaning.
Improperly stored finishes.
Spontaneous combustion from improperly
discarded or un-cared for finish rags, brushes,
wipes.
Tobacco smoker.
All floor machinery and portable hand tools
should be inspected and kept in safe working
order. Every item should have a proper place
for storage and use, with consideration given
long beforehand to how its use will affect
surrounding areas.
Only use a tool if it is in good condition. Be
certain the switch operates properly.
Do not leave any machine unattended with
the power on.
Keep a well-stocked basic First-Aid Kit in your
shop where it can be reached easily. Always
replace what you use as soon as possible.
Carvers should always be up to date on their
tetanus shots.
Equip first aid kit with:
(1)A variety of bandages (2) Antiseptic
ointment (3) Cotton swabs
(4)A first-aid handbook (5) First-aid tape
