Sweet and Hardworking

Student
TG is a young 6 year old girl attending first grade. She
has multiple disabilities, one of which being cerebral
palsy.
TG has potential of thriving! Everyone around her is
touched and believes in her and knows that she will do
great things beyond that which she already has!
Although this is a small glimpse of TG, we cannot
overlook her current abilities and just how far she has
come!

Task Selection
After School
I had the privilege of working with TG over the summer. This
benefit gave me the opportunity to get to know TG at a more
personal level as well as the family. I did not have a chance to
observe TG in an academic setting, but know that she has one of
the most outstanding school support staff that a child could
possibly have!!
I chose a self independence skill, one that she was currently
working on at home over the summer. This skill is one that is
important for her to be able to independently master and use
throughout her childhood, as well as adult hood. Definitely age
appropriate!

Task Analysis
I used a step by step method of focusing on
Self-Feeding using a spoon. I was able to take
pictures of her on an Ipad to walk her through
the different steps that were required for her
to complete this task.

Before Task Analysis

Results
Based on the results, I gathered, TG improved
greatly with this skill. When we first began
working on this task, she was very shaky and
could not incorporate the scooping method.
After working on several attempts with TG we
were successfully able to improve her
performance on this skill greatly.

world cannot be seen or even touched they must be felt with the heart

No matter what your age, we always learn

something!
If a child cannot learn in a way we teach, we must
teach in a way the child can learn - unknown
During my time with TG, I noticed that she was
already checked out for the day after school.
This made it more difficult to work on her skills
and homework.

Next Steps
Partnering alongside the parents to assist TG, I
had the opportunity and privilege to sit in on
her IEP meeting and meet her phenomenal
support school staff.
I was able to come up with ideas that we could
incorporate within her school day to help
make this task a part of her school day goal.
