ECC

ECC is a high performance fiber reinforced

concrete
ECC has the ability to reach tensile strain
capacities of 3%5% under loading (compared
with 0.01%0.02% for normal concrete)
It maintains tight cracks widths of less than 60
m
It is also called Bendable Concrete means it will
not show brittle failure as conventional concrete.

Behaviour of ECC

Conti.

ECC also shows self-healing property. So It is

applicable for the pavement construction.when it is
placed over old pavement, which has undergone in
shrinkage, can improve its performance with
preventing development of cracks.
ECC does not include any coarse aggregate.
But coarse aggregate is crucial for pavement
durability, as it reduces the amount of scaling and
surface deterioration.

Conti.

However, coarse aggregate is believed to interfere

with the complex composite mechanical
performance.
This concept is based on the assumption that the
increase in fracture toughness from the coarse
aggregate will reduce the desired ductile behavior
of the composite.
Adding coarse aggregate to the mix is expected to
reduce workability and make finishing difficult.

Trial Study

Aim of trial study is to check-workability,

compressive strength and tensile strength of the
M20 and M25 grade concrete.
Also to decide one of mix design as a final design
for further castings.
All the test was conduct on the 7th day after the
casting.
Fiber content on both the concrete was 2% of
