SHORING

Shoring is the means of providing

support to get stability of structure
temporarily under certain
circumstances during construction,
repair or alteration, using shores
KINDS
OF SHORING
(props).

. RAKING - Lateral support

upports should be 45 degree or low.

round should be firm, and nicely compacted.
oper bracing should be done.

2. FLING SHORES

r construction between the two existing structures.

ying shores temporarily take up the position of the
mantled building.
e maximum distance of about 10 metre between
e parallel walls can be supported by single flying
hore.

RETROFITTING

- Retrofitting is basically upgrading

the
buildings to make them more
resistant to
seismic activities
- To make the structures earthquake
resistant.
METHODS
- It is an economic solution as

- Improving the columns strength by steel of the jacket ,
anchored with
the foundation.
- Cheap and widely used method of strengthening existing
structural
members .

2.Surface treatment

structures stronger.
- Done internally as
well as
externally.

3. Adding New members

-Shear walls
-Frames (moment resisting frames and braced
frames)
-Bracings
-Buttresses
-Cross walls

SHEAR WALLS
RC shear walls carry
earthquake loads down
to the foundation.
They provide strength
and stiffness to the
buildings.

BRACINGS
Bracing is a very effective
upgrading strategy to
enhance the strength.

Retrofitting Of Masonry Structures

Cracks on a masonry wall formed due to any lateral force can
be stitched by the steel pins. Another technique used is
grouting in which there are holes made around the cracks and
both the cracks and the holes are filled with the epoxy or the
concrete mixture.

BUTRESSES
Cheap mean of
strengthening masonry
structures.
Can be easily
constructed.

ARCHES
Strengthening by arches, as
arches can take more load
than horizontal structures
and are stable.

COLUMN WITH CFRP WRAP

In this a member is covered with two to three layers of
CFRP fiber with the help of epoxy. This increases the
tension in the column and makes it stronger.
