The aim of this unit is to enable learners to

apply production skills to create an advert
for television.
You will examine existing television
advertisements to investigate how
persuasive messages can be constructed.
You will then plan and produce an

everyday life. It is one of the largest sectors of the
media industry, adverts being presented in a wide
range of media such as television, film, radio,
magazines, posters, billboards, the press, and the

has the highest profile, some television
advertisements being so effective and
memorable that they become classics and part
of the cultural background for a whole
generation of viewers.

Television is used to market almost every

product one can imagine from everyday

insurance, banking or vehicle breakdown cover.
Effective advertising insures that brands are
memorable, and highly sought after.

heavily on facts and statistics.
This advertising format aims to
inform customers of the benefits
of the product.

Product image tries to show the

relationship between the product /
service and the customer.
This advertising format aims to
seduce the customer using its
product as a focal point.

The personalised format tries to the

customer by reassuring the
customer of the companies
importance to them.
This advertising format aims to
make their product seem reliable
and trustworthy.

The lifestyle format is designed show

a desired way of living.
This advertising format aims to show
customers what their life could be
like if they use their product.

product seem almost sacred.

The use of celebrities is designed to

make the viewer believe if its good
enough for them, its good enough for
me. It often suggest wealth.

Designed to explain and convince the

audience that their product has been
verified by experts and so is therefor

that this is never seen before. Often
food companies will create new
flavours with limited time to make
viewers believe they are exclusive and
not to be missed.

Advertisers pull on the emotions with

familiarity of great or iconic products /
periods in time.

Again this often uses celebrities to help

influence what we might portray to be a
desired lifestyle. These can often be
realistic or fiction-like.

The use of footage of families looking

harmonious and united is often used as
a way to make viewers believe that if
they buy their product then the family
unit may come closer together.

Children are used within adverts to help

play on the emotions of people. They can
make the advert appear innocent and
friendly or harrowing and dramatic.

This is used to help highlight the

uniqueness of a product. Often the
product might be one where a
competitors will provide the same
service but spun in a way to make
theres seem better.

Use of music or sound to provide a

catchy often contagious effect. Makes
the customer remember it.

Gimmicks are often used to make

adverts unique. Often use things never
seem before. A lot more common since
social networks introduced and the idea
of ads going viral
