FOR QUESTION THREE)
This was the first expansion question off of
question three, its purpose was to increase the
amount of data in consideration of how
familiar those who partook in the
questionnaire are with music videos. The
results showed that the majority of people
(twelve out of the thirty) watch music videos
once or twice a week or (ten out of thirty
watch music videos) a few times a week.
This means that there is still quite a large
percentage of audience who spend a
significant amount of time watching music
videos. Furthermore this led me to think that
what I present the audience with visually will
be just as important as what I present audibly.
My music video will have to include the ability
to both grab and retain the audiences
attention throughout. It is important that the
music video is entertaining because the
likeliness of the audience watching being large
is high.

THREE)
Again, this question is an expansion for
those who answered yes to question three
but went into more depth in order to find out
the details of the audiences music video
viewing habits. This question was more to do
with how much attention the individual
partaking in the questionnaire pays to the
music video when supposedly watching it.
The chart shows that seventeen out of the
thirty people tend to drift in and out of
watching the video. This heightens the
necessity for me, as a director in my
challenge of gaining and maintaining the
audiences attention as it is clear that the
videos that they have been previously
watching are not doing so. This could be
down to a number of factors, not all may be
related to the quality of said music videos as
it may be due to factors such as time
restraint that have influenced my audiences
viewing habits.

a better a understanding of the types
of devices my audience will be using
in order to view my music video. This
data will be more advantageous in
post production as quality of image
will need to be upheld no matter the
processing ability or size of the device.
Depending on what device the music
video is being viewed on will
determine how the video is mastered
to fit.
The graph shows that thirteen out of
thirty use a laptop to view music
videos, whereas eleven use a phone.
The two devices are quite different in
size and processing capability, which
means that this question is all the
more relevant and helpful to the post
editing process.

U S E T H E M O S T ? ( P L E A S E C I R C L E O N E O P T I O N O N LY)
The reasoning behind this question lies solely beneath
the fact that it is important to establish an advertising
platform. I have decided that YouTube will be my
presenting (of the music video) platform but it is also a
necessity that I establish a platform upon which I can
build my advertising campaign.
Advertising can be almost as important as the music
video itself as even the most decorated celebrities need
to inform their fans that they are releasing a new song or
video. Without the creation of this available information,
stating when the release of the video, how it can
accessed and maybe a peek view into what the video is
going to contain then there will be no awareness from
the audiences point of view. If there is a lack of
awareness then a director is at risk of hindering the
music videos chance of success no matter the way in
which they measure whether the video is successful or
not (for example, success could be measured in the
amount of views the video receives or through how much
money is made from sales of the song).
This bar chart clearly states that my target audiences
favourite social networking website is Facebook. This

Question nine focused on the construction and
compilation of the music video. Music videos can
follow a number of different conventions in terms of
their structure. Directors can ensure that their
music video is either performance, narrative or
concept led. Although these categories can cross
over and or be combined depending on the vision
of the director and the message he or she is
wishing to convey to the their audience. This
particular question drew up data that stated that
fourteen people would prefer the music video to be
performance orientated, which would mean a lot of
filming James (the musician) performing live, eight
people said they would prefer the video to be
orientated towards a narrative.
If a music video follows a narrative then this means
that it follows a story and is more flowing in its
sequence. What I found the most interesting about
the data that I collected from this question was that
four people chose either the option all three or
other. I found it interesting because from this it
can be concluded that these individuals would
prefer the music video to be a combination of the
conventions rather than just one or the other.

The results from this bar chart were
inconclusive as the amount of people
the voted for either the serious
option or the funny option was
equal, fifteen people voted for each.
This will mean that I will have to come
to my own conclusion as to how, as a
director I wish to portray both the
musician and my style of direction.

Upper Body Clothing Chart
Question thirteen was split into three different sections in order
to get a clear and simple picture as to what my target audience
identifies, clothing wise, in consideration of the genre in
question. As much as I would have liked this question to be
completely unbiased in terms of offering the participants loads of
options to chose from I had to limit the options available as there
is both a budget (which is small) to consider and what resources
we already have available are. This means that in a sense the
data gathered from this chart is slightly biased although I made
sure that in this question and throughout the questionnaire I
avoided bias via things such as leading questions.
The first part of the questions chart showed that eleven out of
the thirty participants would stereotypically associate a band tshirt with the heavy rock style. Due to this I will try to ensure
that the musician in my music video wears a band shirt through
out the music video. The second part of the questions chart
portrayed that sixteen of the participants associate black
normal jeans with the heavy rock style and the third part of
the questions chart revealed that twenty participants think that
musicians in the genre stereotypically wear Doc Martins. Due
to these results I will make sure that both are included when it
comes to deciding the music videos mise-en-scene, specifically
the musicians clothing attire.

The mood of a music video can be set through
a multitude of different ways. This question
was focused on the way in which the mood
could be set visually in consideration of
preference from my target audiences
perspective. The chart shows that twenty-eight
out of thirty of the participants said that they
believe that in order for a music video to have
both a dramatic and or captivating it would
need to be filmed in black and white.
Previous to this questionnaire I, admittedly
already had my mind set on filming in black
and white as I believed that it would set the
desired mood I was trying to achieve. This
questions data has confirmed my decision.
Admittedly even if the data had shown that my
target market would prefer the music video to
be filmed in colour I would have more than
likely filmed in black and white still. This is
because from watching music videos in both
colour or black and white, personally I have
found that the ones I have watched in black
