The University of Pittsburgh was founded in 1787. It was first called the Pittsburgh academy. It was located in a cabin on the american frontier. On February 18th , 1819 the Pennsylvania legislature renames the school as the Western University of Pennsylvania. Later on the university was moved into a three story building which later burnt down. The school later changed its name from Western University of Pennsylvania to the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt).
