History
• World’s frist ATM was developed by De La
Rue & instolled in Enfield Town in
North London on June 27,1967 by Barclays
Bank.

Hardware & Software
ATMs contain secure crypto
processors within an IBM PC.
• ATMs connected directly to
their ATM Transaction Proces-
sor via either a dial-up modem
over a telephone line or directly
via a leased line.
• ATMs are moving away from
custom circuit boards and into
full fledged PCs with standard
operating systems such as
Windows 2000 and linux.
Parts of ATM Machine
• Topper:-Alighted sign that is attached to the
top of on ATM to attract attention.

• Upper Cabinet:-A separate closed area that


houses the printer, cpu,card reader and modem.
• Printer:- A thermal printer that
prints the receipts. Does not need
ink refills.

• Keypad:-Used for the customer to


enter information for a transaction
and used by ATM owner to program
the machine.
• Modem:- Connect the ATM thro-
ugh the phone line to the network.
• Card reader:- Read the magneti
-c stripe on the customer’s cards.

• Receipt Paper:- Printer roll

• Lower cabinet:- A safe that


houses the dispenser and the cash
cassette.
• Cash dispenser:-
Received instruction from
the CPU to dispense cash to
the customer.

• Cash drawer:- Hold the


cash.

• Lock:- An electronic lock


or dial lock is used to secure
the lower cabinet.
• Fascia:- A plastic door used to
cover the lower cabinet.

• Reject cassette:- Hold bills


that were “rejected” by the dispen
-ser during cash dispense.

• Monitor:- The screen that displa


-ys information for the customer.
• Networking:-
• The ATMs are connected to interbank networks.

• Usage fees:-
• Many banks charge fees for the use of their
ATMs. These fees are assessed for non-
bank member.
• There are two charges exist in the consumer
world of ATM usage,
1. Surcharge fee.
2. Foreign fee.
Talking ATM
• Talking ATM provides audible instructions.
• First talking ATM was an NCR machine
unveiled by Royal Bank of Canada on October
22,1997.
ATM Card
• Operate your savings bank account and draw up
to a maximum of Rs.15000/- in a day.
• Deposit cash in your account up to 30 notes at
one time.
• Deposit cheques at tha ATM cheque drop box.
• Mini account statement listing the last five trans-
actions in your account.
• Change PIN number.
• Cash deposits facility.
• Fast cash.
