1 Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the
health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food,
clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and
the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness,
disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in
circumstances beyond his control.

I. RIGHT TO HEALTH CARE AND HUMANE TREATMENT
1. Access to competent health care and treatment.
2. Health care services shall be available on the basis of clinical need
regardless of the ability to pay
3. Every patient shall be treated with care, consideration, respect and
dignity without discrimination of any kind.
4. All drugs dispensed shall be of acceptable standards, efficacy and
safety
5. Right to prompt emergency first aid treatment
6. Patients shall be interviewed and examined in surroundings designed to
ensure reasonable privacy
7. A child has the right to the company of a parent or guardian.
II. RIGHT TO CHOICE OF CARE

1. Right to a second opinion at any time.


2. Right to know the investigations conducted and the results and a
copy of the medical reports
3. Right to be treated at a hospital of choice and to be referred to a
consultant of choice.
4. Right to accept or to refuse treatment.
5. Right to discharge the health professional and seek the services of
another if he refuses to allow another health professional to be
called in.

III. RIGHT TO ACCEPTABLE SAFETY

Right to a clear, concise explanation of the proposed procedure and of


any available alternative procedure. A patient may refuse any
treatment or investigation.
IV. RIGHT TO ADEQUATE INFORMATION AND CONSENT

1. right to know the identity and professional status of the individuals providing
service
2. right to information regarding all aspects of medication, including :
-The right to adequate and understandable information on prescribed
and purchased medicines.
-The right to the most effective and safe medicines.
-The right to convenient access to medicines.
-The right to choose among competitive products.
3. right to an itemized account after any treatment or consultation
4. Right to be consulted about any decision to discharge or transfer to another
facility.
5. A patient's consent shall be required before any procedure
6. A patient's consent shall be required for the inclusion of a patient in any
research.

V. RIGHT TO REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES

1. Access to appropriate grievance redressal mechanisms.

result of the failure of the health professional to exercise the duty and
standard of care
