Introduction

Plastic use in increasing day by day which

produce a large amounts of waste and become
the corner stone of our lives .
Such as polythene bags. Plastic bags are used
for transporting goods.
Polythene is the most common plastic the
annual production is around 80 million tones.

Problems due to polythene plastic waste

Disposal of waste plastic is a major problem.

Its non bio degradable and it mainly consist of
low density polythene.
Burning of these waste plastic bags causes
environmental pollution.
Due to deposits of plastic waste our agriculture
land become wasting so it is better that we can
re use these wastes.

Methodology

In this project we are using polythene plastic

waste as a binder in bitumen's we will mix the
high density and low density polythene with
bitumens in the following proportion 3%, 5%
and 10% respectively and will check for the
following tests.

Methodology

Softening point

Ductility

Flash and fire

Penetration test

2/24/17 9
Methodology

Softening point: This test is done to determine

the softening point of asphaltic bitumen and
road tar, coal tar pitch and blown type bitumen
as per.
IS 1205 1978.

2/24/17 10
Methodology

Ductility Of Bitumen: This test is done to

determine the ductility of distillation residue of
cutback bitumen, blown type bitumen and
other bituminous products. The ductility of a
bituminous material is measured by the
distance in cm to which it will elongate before
breaking when a standard briquette specimen
of the material is pulled apart at a specified
speed and a specified temperature.

Methodology

Flash and Fire:

This test is done to determine the flash point and the fire point
of asphaltic bitumen and fluxed native asphalt, cutback
bitumen and blown type bitumen. The flash point of a material
is the lowest temperature at which the application of test flame
causes the vapours from the material to momentarily catch
fire in the form of a flash under specified conditions of the
test.
Fire Point The fire point is the lowest temperature at which
the application of test flame causes the material to ignite and
burn at least for 5 seconds under specified conditions of the
test.

Methodology

Penetration test: in this test we examine the

consistency of a sample of bitumen by
determining the distance in tenths of a
millimeter that a standard needle vertically
penetrates the bitumen specimen under known
conditions of loading, time and temperature.

Expected outcome

We are using plastic waste is a binder in

bitumen. The expected out come is that natural
resources will be saved. And aspect that plastic
mixed bitumen will give good strength and
higher resistance to water.
