What , Why, How???

What is CSFB?
Circuit Switched Fall Back enables the provisioning of
the CS Services when the UE is served by E-UTRAN . UE
can connect to UTRAN (3G) or GERAN (GSM) or CDMA2000
network. (In AT&T its UTRAN).
Why CSFB?
VO-LTE (Not VOIP!!) feature not yet enabled in AT&T.
Until then CSFB will provide CS Voice Call services.

Step 1 Extended Service Request

LTE TO UMTS

UE sends a EXTENDED SERVICE REQUEST with CS Fallback Indicator to MME to let it know that it wants to
make a CS Voice Call.
Actix Event LTE_RedirectedReselection_toUMTS_Init is pegged.

Step 2 Redirection from 4G to 3G

ENodeB sends the RRC ConnectionRelease command with Redirected Carrier Information. For example as shown in
the above snapshot ENodeB directs the UE to connect to UARFCN 9766.

 Step 3 Camping on 3G

pegged.

Once the Voice Call is over, UE receives the RRC Connection Release command with redirect info. Hence UE tries to camp on
to the EUTRA frequency 5815.
On successful synchronization LTE_Event_RedirectedReselection_fromUMTS_OK will be pegged. If it is a failure then
LTE_Event_RedirectedReselection_toUMTS_Failed will be pegged in the Actix which is shown in the next slide.

 Step 5 Camping back to LTE

UE Successfully camps back to LTE and the event LTE_Event_RedirectedReselection_fromUMTS_OK is pegged. If it is a

failure then LTE_Event_RedirectedReselection_fromUMTS_Failed will be pegged in the Actix.
