ADVOCACY PROJECT

THE PURPOSE OF THE CACFP PROGRAM IS TO ENSURE THAT ELIGIBLE CHILDREN AND ADULTS WHO
ATTEND QUALIFYING NON-RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES RECEIVE NUTRITIOUS MEALS.
ADVOCATING FOR FAMILY/CHILD HOMELESSNESS AND
HUNGER

One of lifes basic needs, like food and water, is shelter. The provision of housing and
associated services extends across virtually all of social works various arenas of endeavor,
from providing foster care to neglected or abused children, to finding homes for persons
leaving treatment facilities.
Gave my ideas about advocating for children in Columbus county who were going to school
hungry and coming from school hungry
CACFP SERVICES

Homeless Shelters: Emergency shelters which provide residential and food services to homeless families
with children may participate in CACFP. Unlike most other CACFP facilities, a shelter does not have to be
licensed to provide day care.
Adult Day Care Centers: Public, private nonprofit, and some for-profit* adult day care facilities which
provide structured, comprehensive services to adults 60 years of age and over as well as functionally
impaired, nonresident adults may participate in CACFP

CACFP provides aid to child and adult care institutions and family or group day care homes for the
provision of nutritious foods that contribute to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young
children, and the health and wellness of older adults and chronically impaired disabled persons.
Through CACFP, adults receive nutritious meals and snacks each day as part of the day care they receive a
CACFP can make a difference in the quality of your program whether you are a provider in your home, at a
day care center, in an afterschool care program, or in an emergency shelter, you will find many useful
resources for serving nutritious meals and snacks
LETTER TO REPRESENTATIVE

Dear Brendon H. Jones

I am writing this letter out of the concern for the children and adults of Columbus County. Child hunger seems to
be one of the top three problems in Columbus county besides limited shelter, and poor nutrition especially in our day
care, and rest home facilities. Columbus County is known for being one of the unhealthiest counties in the state of
North Carolina. It is my hope that as you have an honored position, that you would help me advocate for children and
adults to acquire more nutritious meals in the communities of Columbus County.

Sincere regards, Briana Hall
