‘years. | was speaking to the bands lead guitarist Ewan Sgehren while he was taking a break from
practicing with the band. He was telling me haw they are constantly practising all the time,
striving to get better and better. He believes that this is one of the key elements for a new band
to make it big in the tough music industry. ‘If you're not committed you have na chance’ ne
stated.
‘Whilst he was on his break, | had time to fire some questions at him about life as a musician and things abou
the band.
To kick things off | asked him what the band name was and how they came up with the name. He responded
with ‘The Band is called The Last Ace’. It was the name of his previous band and he just wanted to keep the
legacy of it going. The band members consist of Ewan who plays the guitar, Gary also plays the guitar, Jodie
plays the keyboard, Dec is on the bass and finally Ben is the singer.
‘The band formed in college as they all knew each other in the music department, however Ben joined them
leter after they heard him sing and figured he wes the right fit. The band have only been together for a few
months as they are-a relatively new band but he hopes to keep them going for a long time. When I asked wh
genre of music he would class the band as he replied with ‘quite indie’ but insisted that anyone with a uniqu
sound can be indie.
‘The band has a unique sound to them, but the closest comparison would probably be Kings of Leon. The new
band haven't done a gig yet as thay are relatively unknown, however Ewan’s first gig was ‘at an Indian, at the
Raj in culcheth, that was interesting’ he said, ‘but afterwards when you came off stage they gave us 4 free
surrey,”
His favourite thing about being in a band is that he gets to spend time with his mates, as the band is really
close 50 it’s good just to spend time with them and have a laugh while making music. He described the band
three words as ‘alternative, fun and unique’
His plans for the upcoming year are, mainly to keep the band together, but also to keep writing songs, releas
a few EP's and maybe even an album. The band at the moment don’t have any plans for a gig, as they are
mainly focusing on writing songs and practicing at the moment as they enjoy doing it.
“Keep an aye out’ he also added as he has high hopes for the band and after listening to them I also think the
could be the next big thing since Oasis.
