THE ACES IN THE PACK | interviewed one of the country's most exciting prospects since Oasis, The Last Ace gutarist Ewan Soehren did his first ever interview with us Indie Sound, and told us the basics about his band. Textwritenby Joe Hadfield Photos by Joe Hadeld his week | Interviewed one of the most highly anticipated bands to come from the north west in years. | was speaking to the bands lead guitarist Ewan Soehren while he was taking a break from Practicing with the band. He was telling me how they are constantly practising all the time, striving to get better and better. He believes that this is one of the key elements for @ new band to make it big in the tough music industry. ‘If you're not committed you have no chance’ he stated. ‘Whilst he was on his break, | had time to fire some questions at him about life 35.8 musician and things about ‘the band, To kick things off | asked him what the band name was and how they came up with the name. He responded ‘with ‘The Band is called The Last Ace’. It was the name of his previous band and he just wanted to keep the legacy of it going. The band members consist of Ewan who plays the guitar, Gary also plays the guitar, Jodie plays the keyboard, Decis on the bass and finally Ben is the singer. ‘The band formed in college as they all knew each other in the music department, however Ben joined them later after they heard him sing and figured he was the right fit. The band have only been together for a few months 25 they are a relatively new band but he hopes to Keep them going for @ longtime. When | asked what genre of music he would class the band as he replied with ‘quite indie’ but insisted that anyone with a unique ‘sound can be indie. ‘The band has a unique sound to them, but the closest comparison would probably be Kings of Leon. The new band haven't done a gig yet as they are relatively unknown, however Ewan’s first gig was ‘at an Indian, at the Raj in Culcheth, that was interesting’ he said, ‘but afterwards when you came off stage they gave us a free curry.’ His favourite thing about being in a band is that he gets to spend time with his mates, as the bands really close so it’s good just to spend time with them and have a laugh while making music. He described the band in ‘three words as ‘alternative, fun and unique’. His plans for the upcoming year are, mainly to keep the band together, but also to keep writing songs, release a few EP's and maybe even an aloum. The band at the moment don’t have any plans for a gig, as they are mainly focusing on writing songs and practicing at the moment as they enjoy doing it. ‘Keep an eye out’ he also added as he has high hopes for the band and after listening to them lalso think they could be the next big thing since Oasis.
