ELECTIVES DESCRIPTIONS
ELECTIVES DESCRIPTIONS CONTINUED
Gifted Elective: The Advanced Academics course offered as an elective class gives students an opportunity to
learn more about themselves and develop skills that will aid them in reaching their true potential. Students will
be guided through the stresses and rigors of honors coursework while teaching students the necessary
academic habits needed to succeed. While identifying their strengths and areas of development, students will
participate in projects and competitions that will allow them to be innovative and creative while encouraging
the use of problem-solving and critical thinking. This course strives to make the curriculum both meaningful
and relevant to the gifted student while reinforcing an element of fun that can be found in learning.
Physical Education: Students will participate in a variety of sports including rock wall climbing, soccer,
basketball, volleyball, badminton, hand ball, pickle ball, running the mile, tennis, baseball, obstacle course, flag
football and other sports.
2D Art: Students will develop their skills in and explore further a variety of 2D mediums including but not
limited to graphite, charcoal, pastel, painting, and colored pencil.
Beginning Spanish: In this class, you will concentrate on building vocabulary and a basic understanding of
Spanish grammar. Students are introduced to numbers, colors, greetings, and common phrases, as well as
culture and geography. The concepts of noun/adjective agreement in number and gender, present tense
conjugations of verbs, and the differences in sentence structure are learned.
Music Wheel: All 6th grade students will take the music wheel as 1 of their 3 elective choices. It consists of
orchestra, band and chorus. Students will rotate through band, orchestra and chorus for approximately 1 week
each and then pick from one of these 3 choices and do that choice for the remainder of the school year.
