RANG DONG FIELD - MARCH 2007

GAS TURBINE 2610 REPLACEMENT

SECLECT AREA FOR MOVING GTC OUT OF SKID

(IN GAS METERING SIDE?)

Advantage:
-No need shutdown GTC2 when carry
out heavy lift
Disadvantage:
-Cut structure beam
-Shutdown fuel gas line (10 days)
-Need disassemble 01 valve (actuator)
-Modify removal trolley beams
AREA BETWEEN GAS TURBINES?

Advantage:
-Confidence for lifting as it is meet
design drawing
-No need shutdown fuel gas line
-No need to cut structure beam
Disadvantage:
-Need to shutdown GTC2 when carry
out heavy lift (30)
-Modify removal trolley beams
WORK STEPS FOR REMOVAL OF
OLD ENGINE OUT OF ITS SKID
1. REMOVE PANEL DOORS TO OUTSIDE

1. Install two eyebolts in lift receptacles in upper panel frame

2. Remove panel clips at bottom of panel frame inside enclosure
3. Use overhead crane (or chain block) above enclosure and attach lift
equipment hooks to eyebolts
4. Unseat bottom of panel by raising panel up to top of the retaining
angle, then pull bottom of panel outward to clear turbine skid
5. While guiding bottom of panel away from enclosure, low panel to
clear the top retaining channel
Use crane to lift panel up (PK2610) and remove to outside area
All panels of PK2610 have been removed
DISASSEMBLE STARTER MOTOR

1. Make sure the motor has been isolated (ICC)

2. Use chain block to secure the starter motor

with the existing monorail

3. Unscrew bolts (6)

4. Control chain bock and move the motor to
temp. platform
DISASSEMBLE HYDRAULIC DRIVEN PUMP

1. Install chain blocks to the existing monorail and

hydraulic driven pump (see the picture)
2. Disassemble all bolts on flanges, connected to
engine & suction pipe
3. Control chain blocks and move it on temp platform
DISASSEMBLE/REMOVE AN ELECTRICAL & INST. EQUIPMENT

Remove or disassemble all instrument /

electrical cables which are concerned
(obstructed) to the engine
- REMOVE INSULATION SHEET FROM ENGINE & EXHAUST
- REMOVE BOLTS/NUTS FROM INLET & EXHAUST DUCT FLANGES
Install 4 hoists to existing beams before installation of removal trolley beams
(outside)
1. Install a reinforcement beam to the top of
GTC enclosure, using platform crane &
chain blocks
2. Install beams & fittings as indicated in the
drawing below, using platform crane
The trolley beams have been installed

The trolley beams are being installed

REMOVE ENGINE MOUNT ASSEMBLY (forward)

Disassemble bolts/nuts (6 &7)

REMOVE ENGINE MOUNT ASSEMBLY (aft)

Disassemble items: 19, 20

and 17 (one side only)

Disassemble items: 8 to 12
MOVE OLD ENGINE TO OUTSIDE THE SKID

Move the old engine out by using

hoists (02) on trolley beams

ADJUSTING IT TO THE MIDDLE
ENGINE REST ON WOODEN BLOCKS
REMOVE EXHAUST DUCT FROM ENGINE

1. Use platform crane or chain blocks

to hanging exhaust before step 2, 3

2. Remove bolts/nuts (14, 15, 16)

3. Move exhaust out of engine

REMOVE GEAR BOX FROM OLD ENGINE

Temp. tool
Due to removal of starter motor & hydraulic pump
completed before engine is out of skid, so
temporary tool for disassemble of gear box needs
to be fabricated to make it balance with gear box
(C.G) during removal
REMOVE GEAR BOX FROM OLD ENGINE

1. Install temporary tool & chain blocks 3. Remove the remaining bolts (11, 12, 13)
to gear box (see the pictures)
2. Replace some bolts (06) by guide rods 4. Pull out gearbox, using chain blocks &
temporary tool

REMOVE AIR INLET COLLECTOR FROM ENGINE

1. Install chain blocks to gear box &

existing structure (see the pictures)
2. Remove bolts (2, 3 & 4; 5, 6, 7 &8)

3. Pull the air collector out

PREPARE FOR REMOVAL OF OLD ENGINE TO OPEN AREA

1. Use platform crane to remove old 2. Engine is being lifted up

engine to outside

LESSON LEARN
LESSON LEARN
A. PREPARATION
1. Not familiar with lifting beam arrangement at
first time

2. Confusing for selection of loadout area

LESSON LEARN
3. Not utilize the available lifting tools for disassembling starter
motor and gearbox
LESSON LEARN
4. No single point lifting tool is available (not purchased)

5. Four hoists are available, but not good in condition (New hoists
need to be purchased for future use)

6. Not enough special tools for the job such as oven, temporary
stand
LESSON LEARN
B. DURING CARRYING OUT THE WORK

1. Too many persons were involved with lifting operation. It must be

controlled by deck foreman
2. Service Engineer: not familiar with some tasks during disassembling
of engine

3. Due to building the temporary platform (by scaffolds), so access

to/from engine was limited. This platform is not necessary for removing
the engine
LESSON LEARN
C. AFTER COMPLETION OF THE WORK

1. Not good pack of old engine before sending to onshore for overhaul,
caused the engine got corroded badly

2. List of the hired tools have not been checked before turning back to
VSP, causing some items missing (need to be ordered)
