Will be working with individuals of all ages

High number of individuals retiring and moving to Florida
The older the population, the more likely to see individuals with arthritis,
joint replacements and other age related injuries.

multidisciplinary exercise programs dedicated to injury
prevention and rehabilitation for the community.

Blood Bourne Pathogens Policy
Any individual involved in the care of a student-athlete
should take advantage of the universal precautions (gloves,
eye shields, etc.) to prevent any contamination of themselves
or others.
Bleeding should be controlled to best ability of the client. All
wounds must be covered at all times.
Contaminated clothes or other items must be washed with
soap and water ASAP.
Hands should be washed immediately after cleaning with
antibacterial soap and water.
General Precautions and Disposal
All areas of facility must be cleaned with a disinfectant on a
daily basis.
All potentially contaminated sharps (i.e. scalpels, needles,
etc.) should be disposed in the proper receptacle (approved
biohazard sharps container).
Biohazard waste containers and sharps containers will be
disposed of properly when full in accordance with school
policy.
Emergency Action Plan
The purpose of this EAP is to establish procedures for safely
and effectively managing and emergency event for this
Physical Therapy Facility. All employees and clients are
expected to follow the procedures given in this EAP to
ensure that all individuals are protected from further harm
during this emergency situation.

Mild Injuries: Ankle sprains, strains, and contusions

Serious Injuries: Broken bones/fractures
Broken Bones
1. Treat the athlete for shock
2. Apply basic first aid
3. Do not attempt to reduce the fracture
4. Splint, making sure the athlete continues to have a distal pulse

Respiratory Emergency
1. Check for consciousness
2. Call 911
3. Look, listen, and feel for signs of breathing
4. Head tilt chin left
5. Give to two rescue breathings
6. Check for pulse
7. Begin rescue breathing, one breath every five seconds
Emergency Action Plan cont.
Spinal cord injury
1. Check the airway, breathing, and circulation, and administer CPR as
need
2. Call 911
3. Support head and neck to protect the vertebral column
4. Treat for shock
5. Do NOT move the athlete until advanced medical help has arrived.
Move only when the athlete is properly secured to the backboard and
has cervical brace on to support the neck.
6. Assure the patient that everything possible is being done. (No
promises of optimal health)
